Thats where i was born up there in the north lakes still go back and meet up with me mates some sound roads up there cumbria cc laid 400km of new tarmac last year and its gonna be the same this year

On Sunday I went out again with a different mate (yes I have more than one !)..
This time we did the infamous Wrynose and Hardnott Passes..
1:3 in places with sheer drops off the edge if you miss judge.
Have to admit I got that vertigo feeling if I looked over the edge.
As some of you will know there are several hairpin bends both up and down that are on a 1:3 gradient.
To be honest I almost didnt enjoy parts of it...
I can say my bike has been there and done that but I am in no rush to do it again !

Good on you for doing the run Speedy & good on you for saying you're in no rush to do it again.    At our age, (you'll be 60 next year ya ole coot!) riding is about fun & enjoyment, we're not out to prove anything to anyone. (except maybe ourselves) 

I'm chomping at the bit to get out for a good ride myself, but we're getting colder & wetter all the time now, think I'll be limited to day runs from here on in for a while.

Just changed the web browser app back to the default one on my Samsung phone and what do you know....
It allows me to post photos from the phone.
Photos dont show just how steep the terrain is....
Bike had tons of grunt for ANY hill..
But its at the back of your mind not to wheelie !

It might not have the spectacular view as the Hardnott Passes but i found the Cat and Fiddle Road ( A537 ) in the Peak district very entertaining 

might be a better ride for people with vertigo

Love the cat and fiddle i done the line painting on there in 94 used to work in oz in 2001 line painting worked on the hume highway nsw and also lined the mcquarie pass top to bottom now theres a road with big drops . The samsung phone iv got you can post pics but you have to resize them thats the wifes job haha

I can relate completely with you there Speedy, did it last Oct and wouldn't rush back uness I get a trail bike

So I guess you didn't go that way the first time then Speedy!!! 
It can be very challenging, especially in poor weather - definitely not recommended when there is ice around!! 

But the scenery is fantastic, especially the view back down to Ravenglass estuary from the west side of Hardknott.

Me too Latty - a Whitehaven boy originally. Was over there last year for the IoM TT and Assen Motgp (the latter on bikes). Managed to squeeze in a run over those passes but in a car (thankfully - it was p*ssing down!!) then too!!

sorry I didnt answer you on your original post.
The 1st trip I was following and we did 272 miles... So wasnt in the mood to add to the original trip.
But this later ride was far more relaxed and we stopped several timrs for coffee and pasties.

On my original long trip to Wastwater my mate knows some amazing routes.. More like moorland tracks in places that go through farm yards..

I remember going up to Brampton in the school holidays when I was a kid to dig peat - earn a few quid. Was bloody hard work but good fun! I first left Cumbria in early '78 (and the UK in '89) but it will always be home to me and I love going back.

I will ask Dave (the mate with a satnav in his head) which routes we did...
Im afraid I just followed and enjoyed the scenery so I am clueless when it comes to the very minor routes..
