Having had a couple of battery powered cameras I got frustrated with the power running out after 4-5 hours on an 8 hour ride out.

In the end I have fitted an Innovv camera to my GTR for the European tours. It's powered from the bike battery, you could stash the control unit under your seat and then just try and find a stable point on your bike to mount the bullet lens.

The main disadvantages over a helmet cam are that you can get some vibration (the human body is a good shock absorber) and that it will obviously be mounted lower than the rider's eye level. Personally I can live with all of this for the battery life and the fact that as soon as you turn your ignition on you are up and running.

By constantly tinkering with the mounting I'm now getting some fair shots and am currently editing last year's France trip - I'll try and post something up on Youtube in the next week or so.

I took this footage with an older GoPro in 2016, simply mounted on the bars behind the Dash.

As a thought a second camera mounted on engine crash bars facing the font wheel gives you an excellent shot to break up your first main camera.
May the sun be warm & shining and your roads be smooth & winding.

I have always thought Go-Pro's to be highly overpriced for what they are. I bought a cheap SJ4000 action camera from Ebay and had 6 years faultless use from it. Not ideal, but most of the time I had it lid mounted and used it all year round when commuting.
This video clip was one of the few times I mounted it rear facing on the seat unit...

A bit of a late reply on this one, but it's something I forgot to add when I posted my reply.

If you do use a camera, be aware that if you get up to no good, ie, speeding etc and the feds stop you. The first thing they will normally do is seize the camera. If you have the date and time imprint turned "ON" the footage can and will be used as evidence should the alleged offence go to court.

Just be aware!

Main reason ive never bothered.

Same here, if you have a camera on your bike you have to be squeaky clean, no dodgy overtaking, no speeding, no flipping the bird at some useless car driver as it could all come back to bike you in the arse.  Plenty of people here been caught out one even went to the big house for 2 years just on the evidence of his own videos.

There are two groups I know of here in S/E Q that won't have them on rides. It's made quite clear you won't be welcome filming other riders.

We've had one fatality on a ride and first thing the cops did was to seize all the Go-Pro's and similar.

I got stopped by bike cop, i was in push bike lane, big crime. He couldnt believe i had no camera. Warning, that was it. Camera wouldve seen me speeding, best result. How many times do you really watch your rides at home, just not something i want. Surely you have them in head.

Nic

Wow, it never occurred to me that the coppas would take your go pro so they could nab you, of course now that I know this, it's no bloody surprise is it  :furious:

Not sure if this is still current and what countries it's valid in but we were told... " This broad power means that police can confiscate a GoPro or SD card (the device) if the police officer "reasonably suspects" that evidence of any type of offence may be found on the device".

Think i remember last few years near here, a bloke on a bike got charged 17 offences from his camera.

Speedy1959

The warped part of my brain says to speed up a video of your bike ride, and put it on the SD card then await its confiscation !!

grog

Not sure i understand your reasoning there Speedy.

I have a dash cam and a cam on the 14 - my daughter in law is a barrister (nice coffee) and defends lots of drivers involved in traffic accidents, mainly in London , and she a picture makes a huge difference  :) I" feel safer with all the twats on the road  :)
