How would they know if I said I was returning to England to live after 5 years under the evil communist dictator Jacinda.

They probably wouldn't, however, if you were unfortunate enough to have an accident, then you might find yourself uninsured. Trust me, insurance companies in the UK utilise the small print every way they can in the event of something happening and if they find you haven't declared something - like not being a resident - then you could be in big trouble with the possibility of prosecution as well.

One of the questions on the insurance form you have to fill in when you are taking out insurance is how long you have lived at the address you are providing and in some cases, they also ask for your previous address. Instant gotcha.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Agreed. As I said, I have a UK address, citizenship and driving licence.

Although it ticks a few box's it wouldn't be hard to work out what I was doing. Insurance company's are happy to take your money, it's the paying out bit they aren't so keen on.

It does seem a little bit of a grey area as I could properly move back to the UK and be in a similar situation. Folk moving and changing their mind either way is quite common.

All UK insurance gives you 90 days in the EU and some other countries too.

As a matter of interest how do you log the 90 days, my policy covers 365 days probably because I could be in and out of Europe everyday if I wanted to.

The only thing I've ever seen in the terms & conditions suggests it's a 90 day per trip limit as there was a mention of travel dates needing to be proved.

I'm seething, non resident insurance ain't gonna happen. Spoke with Carole Nash nope we don't do it they say.
Spoke with a delightful lady at Superbike Rentals she confirmed it cannot happen and they have nothing they can offer for continuous hire longer than 3 weeks.
Suppose I could steal one and ride it with not a care in the world.....bit like the scum do here. To be honest I wouldn't know how to.
Do it all legally......errr NO !!  :furious:
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

What about renting a bike on the continent like in the Netherlands? Then take it across on the ferry. Surely they have international tourists doing bike tours all the time.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

You're right Col, I phoned my insurance company (BeMoto) yesterday to ask on your behalf, they say no and they had no idea who might be able to help.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

I was having a look around & found this thread https://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/578198-Short-term-bike-insurance-for-non-UK-licence-holder

Seems a couple of people managed what you want to do last year & there's some emails for people at Adrian Flux (a broker like Carole Nash) in the thread who I'd say are worth contacting.

Col, on the GetRouted site they say insurance was found somewhere in Germany.

Via ADAC?

I'd seen that too elsewhere, but couldn't find a link to them in English.
