Yep, should do the job.  If you lived closer mate I'd lend you my carb tune set in a heartbeat
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Thanks Eric, will buy the cheapies. Think ive checked my bike 3 times, only ever the tiniest bit out. Shes riding good so doubt theyll be wrong this time.

On that note, anyone know what the base vacuum should be? Last time I ran the bike up to operating temp, set tps and stps  and idle at 1100rpm then balanced till they were all even, but vac seemed a bit high. At least they were all even

What reading Eric?High is better than low. 15 and above i seem to remember is ok.

I use carbine 2 vacuum gauges on my bikes had the years .
As for the settings .
I think all the throttlebodies are balanced off of number 3 .
And all reading should be close as possible to each other .
So 3-4 balanced 1-2 balanced then 3/4-1/2 balanced .
I also think that balancing the throttle bodies should be last think done after a full service and checking of the tps and stps .

15 rings a bell, most important is that they're balanced  I found at lower vac settings (I.e closing the butterflies with the adjuster screws, the vac weights in the tubes bounce a lot more, so as grog says, higher is better, more stable.

Should I get some?? had the bike 6 years, runs like a sewing machine  so never checked anything - if its not broke don't fix it !!! :)

Pretty spot on Chris. I did all adjusts when i got it, 11 yrs now. Nothing has ever really changed, checked a few times. Must add, 20 thou ks when i got it. Fully serviced, stamped by major Suzuki dealer. So many things wrong, unbelievable. Suspension settings differed side to side.F&R. TPS etc all out. One caliper bolts not tight, one fell out. Loose throttle cables. Spent a lot of time checking over, previous owner would thought a diff bike if he rode it. Often wonder if he sold it because he thought it not good enough, sure wasnt with its settings. Sorry so long, one more. Bought new Yamaha early 80s, used to use lots fuel, backfire etc. They checked it out, under wrty, all good, nothing wrong. I eventually checked, from factory, one metering needle was fitted over carb slide, meant to be under it.

In my opinion the Morgan Carbtune is the best one out there. I used one for many years. If a bike hasn't had the carbs/throttle bodies balanced for many years if at all you won't really notice the performance suffering. If and when you do balance it I can almost guarantee that you'll notice a marked improvement in throttle crispness.
I did quite a few balances for friends when I was working on bikes and they always came back from a post balance test ride with a big smile and commenting that it had transformed the bike completely.

When I checked mine just the once in 50k miles they were way out.
There is no base line vac setting, but as long as all four are equal, you're good to go.

NOTE...
Do not forget to reconnect the IAP sensor once you've done the balance. If you forget about it as I did only the one time, it will run like a bag of poo and you'll panic!

PS. Before anyone asks..No, I don't do them any more as I sold my Carbtune earlier this year due to no longer needing it.
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!

I have a set of Morgan Carbtune Pro, never used them on the 1400, but my mate Dan borrowed them for a problem he had and they did the trick.

 :smile2:thanks for the responses, confirms what I was thinking, just as long as they are balanced it doesn't matter how much vac they are pulling (within reason). 

And I reckon any set will do, assuming the gauges are all reasonably accurate. I have thr Morgan carbtune pro and the long handled right angle screw driver, makes adjusting them soooo easy.
