Hoping for collective wisdom from here (perhaps that's an oxymoron?  :stir:).

Does the fuel cap and ignition barrel from a TL1000 fit on the GSX1400 (pre K5 with the immobiliser) ? Found this listing on gumtree, was wondering if this would work.  My fuel gap is ok, the cover flap is broken on one hinge, and I need to strip and clean out the ignition barrel one day.

I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Not sure, but I've used an aftermarket ignition switch and keys on a bike I had that someone tried to steal.  It worked but never felt great. Always a little awkward in comparison to the original.  They seem good value but it'd rather try and find one from a crashed or wrecked bike myself.

Probably, I know a GSXR600 barrel, lock and wiring plugs were identical to 14s so makes sense the entire range uses the same part.

Well I've just looked up all the part numbers for a fuel cap for TL1000, GSX-R600 and GSX-R750. The part number for the GSX100 is 44201-33820 - the only matching bike with the same part number is the GSX-R600 (K1-K3 model), all other fuel caps on different models (incl later GSX-R600's) have different part numbers.

So I'm not at all sure why the ad says for the 3 models?

If you do proceed @Eric GSX1400K3 I think you need to know the exact model and year of bike and check part numbers
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

That's a pretty safe way to check, and I do exactly the same with part numbers quite often.

I would add that I've found with various cars and bikes it's not 100% fool proof (I'm the fool that's proof!) for example I'm currently mixing Busa and B-King parts, they swap absolutely fine but have different part numbers, in some cases it's due to a slight difference in paint or finish where the physical part is exactly the same. A tiny bit of black paint or silver paint results in a totally different part number.

I do agree that identical part numbers should be a safe bet though...  :onya:

Cheers and thanks, sage advice as always Mr.Barmy and Mr.Nitrous
