the higher up the rev range you go the further the map will be out .

The popping on overrun is the PAIRS system kicking in.

I'd agree with Seth about getting it checked on a dyno - the later (K5 ->) models ran very lean at lower revs compared to the earlier models. If you do need a remap though fit a PCIII, don't let them re-map your standard ECU.

When I had my K7 remapped, it really was quite surprising how much smoother it was with bang on fuelling

the poping in the over run de-acceleration is due to the pairs valve mostly and the standard ignition settings (why folk change to 2-4° advancer)
its your bike but most run lean at higher revs when you change the exhaust to one that breaths better.

there is an easy way to disable the pairs valves and also mod the back plate for ignition advancing.
all on here in the how to sections
as barmy says I'd be very wary about running it unchecked
