Healtech gear indicator

I just fitted a Healtech gear indicator with ignition advance. It seemed to go well but I did have a few issues. The first was my fault as I also did the PAIRS delete and forgot to pug a connector together again that was near the pairs unit. It gave me an F1 sign on the dash. After I lifted the tank back up and reconnected it again it seemed okay until I went for a quick ride. It then gave me the F1 code again and a red light on the dash. I came home quickly and turned it off for a few minutes. Then I turned it back on and the F1 symbol was gone and the red light was not on. So I took it out for another test ride and this time no errors on the dash. The only issue was when down shifting sometimes when going from 3rd to 2nd it showed 1 on the pad instead of 2. It didn't do it everytime and was fine going up the gears. It did seems a bit smoother down low as i selected 7 in the tre menu. As it's an electrical indicator will it sometimes read incorrect ? It may be a self learning thing but it did register the all gears straight after fitting it. I checked them up and down on the centre stand and it worked fine. Has anyone else had this happen to their bike, Cheers Steve.

I haven't fitted one myself but from the videos I have seen of them being fitted I believe you have to put it in learning or programming mode and then it goes through a sequence and tells you what gear to put it in so that it learns the correct gears

It did do that and it didn't do it on the last 5 minutes of the ride. I guess I'll see what it does next time I take it out.

Stevel, mine always been perfect so no help, sorry. Try it again, if not right do relearn again. Mine very rarely shows wrong gear, only when ive missed a gear etc, my fault. Dont panic, youll fix it.

I have in my K6 a simple Healtech GIpro DS without ATRE. It was on the bike when I bought it two years ago and all the time it has failed to indicate the first gear. When I finally decided to find out what was the reason I downloaded its manual and noticed that it gets its gear position from the ECU and if it shows incorrect gear it means that the ECU also has incorrect information, so the gear position sensor was not working correctly. I uninstalled the GPS and cleaned its contact surfaces with sandpaper. After having done that the GIpro started indicating all gears correctly.

I hink they work the same as the built in one on my HD and I can make that lie by slipping the clutch for a few secs but keeping speed/revs steady as I do it. Typically if I'm slow enough for first but not bothering to change down.

Yeah I'm hoping it's just something like that, it did seem to work better after about 10 minutes of riding. Next ride will tell me if I need to look into it any further.
