Hey all,

I've noticed some interest around what is actually gained (both power and torque) when removing the PAIRS and fitting an ignition advancer?
Not sure if's already been covered (please excuse my lack knowledge if it has) however I have the Dyno specs for mine that I'll list below if anyone's interested.

Country: Australia (in case that matters - I know there are some differences)
Model: K2
Mods: DNA air filter, Staintune pipes (baffles out), PAIRS removed, ignition advancer fitted (oh and @70,000kms on the clock when the results were recorded)

OEM spec: 106hp/78kW @6800rpm
126Nm @5000rpm
Dyno result: (1/11/19): 105hp @7200rpm
123Nm@5100rpm

So there are definitely some small gains to be made, in addition to the improved throttle response and smoother running.
See print out of results attached.

I've removed and blanked off the PAIR's on a couple of mine, including the 14.

It lets the dyno sniffer get a more accurate and true A/F reading.

It also cleans up the awful popping and banging on the overrun if you have a decent pipe / full system like a Cyclone or Akra.

I've never considered it a tuning mod.

I haven't used an ignition advancer on a 14, I have on a 1200 Bandit but it had to be removed when I added nitrous.

Same Dynos on different days give a very slightly different graph  so don't read to much into a slight increase in power .
As for the graph the less bumps I  the curve to nicer the bike will run.
Removing the pairs and ignition advancer as said clean up the fueling a bit and help them run smoother and cleaner.
That said both are worth doing.

only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

I think the time & effort required for such small gains is unnecessary IMHO. Unless you're planning on riding your GSX @ max revs in every gear all the time there is very little to gain overall 🧐🧐🧐

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

The time and effort is a labour of love - some people might play golf instead which I feel is a good way of dying on two legs!
They may be small gains, but they are gains.
And most of us do "things" to our bikes don't we?

Steady on the golf comments, one of my passions. The other has ATRE and pairs blocked, smoother for sure, hard to remember b4, been done 8 or 9 years. Healtech gives me gear position as well. Can of worms but i like it. Power increase, maybe in first 4 gears that are retarded stock, nothing really. Just my set up. Gotta do what you gotta do👍

Hehe, some of my best friends play golf too...wierdos!
TRE can't be used with ignition advancer though?

Two different things. We have had members who have combined both but I won't.

One stops the ECU changing the timing by fooling it into thinking it's in a different gear that doesn't require it.

The other moves the timing forward permanently in every gear.

A combination would move all timing forward AND stops it being moved back by the ECU.

They are both just ways on playing with the timing, one is just moving everything, the other stopping the ECU from doing an adjustment.

I've used ignition advancers on Bandit 12's but didn't notice a huge difference, I have and still run a TRE (home made.. 20 cent's - 6.8ohm resister) as a top speed limiter bypass on older Busa's.

TRE on the GSX1400 cannot be used together with the timing plate mod. It's one or the other, not both.

I run a TRE and bike is smooth as silk though the gearbox. If I unplug it, it gets a little rougher.

Pairs elimination gets rid of a little bit of weight and some useless tubing.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Pairs removal made mine slightly smoother going on or off the power at high revs. Not a lot and it's pretty rare I ride quick enough to be in the range it made a difference for.

I just did both ( PAIRS and TRE ) and did notice a slightly better throttle response and much smoother engine overall, Well worth the mod imo......
