Hey guys,

I've been scratching my head...and other parts, all morning but for the life of me I can't find the fault.
I'm modifying the old girl by fitting an after market dash.
I've removed the oem dash and hence the wires that come out from behind the dash are disconnected from the bike.
Before I install a different dash I wanted to see where I stood electrically, so I tried to start the bike.
The starter turned over but the engine wouldn't fire....I also didn't hear the familiar fuel pump whine.
Any ideas??
Do I remove the side stand relay and connect the wires?
Do I do something to bypass the fuel pump relay?
I'd really like to get the bike to start without the dash before I go modifying it further.
Cheers,
Phil

...from what I can tell, it seems disconnecting the dash has created an open circuit which prevents the fuel pump from priming.
Anyone know how I can close this open circuit without reattaching the dash?

I seem to remember from a thread years ago that the bike will start with the clocks disconnected, I'm fairly sure that it was in one of the threads put up about the gear indicator modification done by Thommohawk

I have just checked one of the emails that I had off Thommohawk and the following is in his instructions for removing the clocks

"The bike will start and run quite happily without the clocks fitted - just unplug the two connectors within the headlamp bowl and try it"

Nice one, Will. I'll give that a go tomorrow. :worshippy:

If that doesn't work, pm Halibag - he fitted an aftermarket dash to his K5 and moved the ignition switch, so may have some insight possibly
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

I woke early this morning eager to disconnect the two plugs in the headlight housing but unfortunately it didn't change anything...the starter still turned over but no fuel pump prime and hence no engine fire.
I've PM Halibag, hopefully he has some insight.
Cheers for the replies so far

This is an embarrassing post but for the sake of someone else trying the same, I'll take the hit.
The bike wouldn't start with the dash removed because in the process I had blown a fuse.
...my apologies for wasting everyone's time. :hat:

Good result Phil.

Another reminder for us all to check the basics first.
