Pairs reed valve gaskets

Hi all

A bit of a longshot here, does anyone have a couple of the pairs reed valve gaskets that they would sell me, it's the square rubber gaskets that go around the actual reed valves that I need, I took both mine off tonight to check that they were sealing and they have gone hard & brittle causing them to fall apart

I have done away with the pairs system but the gaskets are used to seal the blanking plates, it doesn't look like you can buy them separate to the valve assy from suzuki

If you can't get them Pete, some ordinary gasket sealant from Halfords will do the trick

Thanks @gsxbarmy I was wondering today if I could take the valves out all together and use some gasket sealant on the valve covers to form an air tight seal, I have some decent rubber caps over the hose tails on the valve covers so it would be a sealed chamber then for want of a better description. I don't know of a reason why the valves or a blanking plate needs to be in there if the outer is sealed?

No reason at all Pete. As you say you can use rubber caps, on some members bikes I did, I used an M6 screw (I think, may have been m5) which screwed straight into the end where the pipe fixes on then covered that with a cap.

Blanking plates replace the oem cover 'cause it looks better.

You still need a gasket between cover and the cam cover, either oem if you can save them, or a sealant like barmy suggested. It needs to be a heat and oil resistant sealant.

You can remove the reed valves themselves (the thin high tensile steel plates under the covers, as there is a risk that they break off and fall into the camshaft/tappets causing mischief.

Like you, I've sealed off the tubes coming off the oem cover. Basically folded the hose back on itself and zip tie to hold it closed. One day I will put on some fancy plates, for now the original ones are doing the job.

I just blocked off air intake hose years ago. Cant see how a not moving reed valve can either break or fall into motor. Only exit is into exhaust.

Fair point grog, I was thinking of vibrations ultimately fatiguing the strip of metal
