Greetings one and all,

Was a member on the previous site, just went to log in and boom, gone.

Thanks for the prompt response and add to the new site.

I am currently stripping my 2003 1400 back to turn it into a race bike, I am trying to find race plastics to replace the duck tail and to eliminate the under tray, as I am in Australia the rules stipulate that I cannot have lights on the bike, so no brake light. Wondering if anyone has made similar changes or if anyone knows of who might make replacement plastics.

Once again, thank you for the quick response, and I hope to start a build thread on the 1400, she is getting lots of new go fast bits, just need to make sure I can go fast too.  ha ha
The next chapter for the 1400, bring it on.

I'd love to know more.
What sort of racing are we talking about?
And where?
Look forward to the build thread.

Is this for racing or just track days?

I think to race in an open meeting in Australia you have a maximum capacity of 1300cc although the 1600cc Irving Vincent turns up every now & then. They also have a 1300cc model so maybe the 1600 is for demo's only. Club day capacities might be different. The track or ride days that I've done your head & tail lights can stay but they like the mirrors gone.

You've got me interested in what you're intentions are with the bike as at one stage I looked at fitting Dunstall style tank, seat, half fairing and 4 into 4 megaphones similar to a 750 Honda race bike I built in the 70's.

For your plastics question you could try the Post Classic Racing Assoc site or Google motorcycle fibreglass Australia.

PS; I notice Teufel asked a similar question while I was typing ... how are you mate.
If you look like your passport photo then you're too sick to travel.

Teufel

All good thanks.
If they did race your mates again you'd be allowed to race the 1400.
Sadly, club racer (same thing) at Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland is only for F1 and F2
Formula Oz is basically run what you brung, so that might be an option.
You have to be realistic though.
I raced in Race Your Mates a couple of years ago and finished 9th out of 21 a long way behind the leaders, whereas on my GSXR I'm usually in with a shout and have had the occasional win.
If this lock down ends I'll be racing at Morgan Park this weekend on a 2017 GSXR 1000.
I might do okay.
It just depends on who shows up.
How are you?
What sort of 4 wheelers are you into?
I see you're planning more of that now.
I like the lift. What a luxury. Awesome.

I'm good mate although this cool weather brings out the aches & pains.
I've got a couple of Lotus 7 replica's & a boat to keep me occupied now so the hoist will come in very handy.

A good friend in Blacktown has a Westfield.

That they are Pete. A bit like a bike really ... cold in winter, bloody hot in summer, fast and if it rains you get a wet arse too.

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

Ok, so initial intentions are to get her ready for track days, but I am going to set her up under racing guide lines, so no lights, no rear pegs, full suspension rebuild and replacement. I am looking at K Tech for the front end, with linear springs to suit my aging fat arse, for the rear I am going with YFS I think they are, they are fully adjustable and have height adjustment, high and low speed compression dampening, about $4200 AUD for the lot, including new fork tubes.

I have an idea with the seat, to build a race hump on the back half of the seat base and have a custom single seat made to fit in front of it, so the lot can be lifted off.

As for the plastics, if I can get a second hand rear, I will plastic weld a piece in to replace the tail light and modify the underside to remove the mudguard and so on.

At the moment all I have done is replaced the bars with pro taper MX bars, nice and wide and much straighter, I have all the braided lines from Hel, to go on, then she will get stripped back to frame and motor and all the bits sent off that need to be worked on.

I am aiming for next year with this build, slow and steady, she isnt going any where.

Oh and I already have the Akrapovic race system on the bike, got that and the fuel injection plug in not long after I got the bike.

As for the class of racing (if I get that good) I believe its Formula Oz, basically as long as it has two wheels you can race it.

B/W ones are so fast they are banned from racing.
