Thanks Hooli, had no clue. Id like to buy my first registered bike. 1952 VH Red Hunter Ariel 500. Wouldnt be cheap now.

My first registered bike was a chinese 125 thing, it's probably worth about 65p these days.

Same here @ Daytona , paid £175 for it , got me on the road  :riding:

A fizzie was a Yamaha fs1e ,I had one at 16 ,gave us young uns our freedom,,pisses me off when I see them selling at 6 grand, mine was £225 brand new on the road in 1975...

Bang on Daytona - freedom machines for us sixteeners, mine was the FS1-E predecessor, the gold `SS`. Identical other than the side panel emblem! I bought it for £120, mint and under a year old. Luvved it. Rode it everywhere, sometimes did 100mile rides in all weathers visiting grandparents, no mobile phones then, no riding gear, just jeans/Levi jacket/sweatshirt & trainers. It never let me down thankfully. Had the bike around a year before passing my test, enjoyed every moment - even saw 42mph on the clock once!!

I saw a bloke riding one a while back - it looked stupidly tiny. I wondered whether he felt as big a tw4t as he looked!

Getting back on subject - no, they just cannot be worth the big money they are demanding, and no matter how desperate I am (or not!) to relive my youth, i`ll be spending my spare few grand on a proper bike, not a moped......

.......talking of which, I saw a couple of mint standard Triples this afternoon on the A251 between Ashford & Faversham - sounded awesome. A Red GT750M & Red H1E. Those responsible, please step forward  :worshippy::onya:

I'm sure I have a couple of those wee two stroke things lying somewhere in the corner of my shed.

I had a Casal Phantom 5 at 16 that was on slightly less excruciatingly slow than a FS1E and loved it for the freedom a moped gave me and my FS1E owning mates. Would I want to ride one now?

Of course I would but only once up and down our street. After that I would be painfully reminded of why I couldn't wait to be able to move on to a bigger (proper) bike at 17 because all those mopeds were tiny and absolutely mind numbing, boringly slow.

Honestly paying £6k and upwards for a moped is absolutely bonkers. I get the fun of fixing up an old one that needs TLC but riding it on the road 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

GSXKING

I'm with you Phil. A quick blat up and down the street, hand it back to owner with many thanks. Thinking to my self, gee I'm glad I don't own one anymore and jump on my GSX1400 and ride off happily  :boogie: :boogie:

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

On the other hand...

I know a bunch of old farts, they must be about 60, who have all got the 125s they had as kids again & do often go on group rideouts for miles racing each other at 42.3mph & have a right laugh.

Thanks Barmy, hows the injuries? Me and mates went the old Pommy bike route. AJS, Matchless, Ariel, Triumph. Had some great times fixing and riding. Taught me a lot. Mostly mid 50s models. They had some basic ideas but we fixed them, got them working. Have you ever seen a novice try to kick start Ariel 500 with high compression piston without retarding spark. Broken ankle or 5ft in the air. Funny. We tried to show him, wouldnt listen.

If you look like your passport photo then you're too sick to travel.

Not too bad thanks @grog , the injury to my leg is taking longer to heal than I thought, guess taking a lump of flesh out on the bone plus age and expecting a quick "back to normal" wasn't realistic LOL. Bike has been assessed for damage and inspected by the insurance, just awaiting the nod from them now to start repairs.

Must admit the accident has unsettled me more than I thought, forever looking in my mirrors now especially when another vehicle gets close behind (even when driving the car). I'll see how it goes when I get the GS back, but I keep getting nightmare recurrences of the accident reminding me how lucky I was to get off with such slight injuries, possibility that I may yet hang up my helmet for the last time - but I'll see once I get things back on the road. But one thing for sure is that its knocked my confidence even though I know I did nothing wrong.

I think that's the major issue Dave, you did nothing wrong & ya still got belted - by someone you knew.  Makes it hard to 'trust' again for sure.  Maybe some time on your own first, then be the 'tail end charlie' for a while.  Good luck on both the healing sites - leg n head.   :onya:
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Can you borrow a bike off anyone to get out on Barmy? I know after my spill in march anytime when I could have run into things (approaching junctions etc) made me uncomfy for a while, but I'm sure getting out on a bike again soon afterwards helped as I didn't dwell on it for too long before realising it won't happen every time.

Talking of injuries, I've still got a bruise on my knee from march. So I must be getting old too.

Yes, I have a loan bike at the moment which I have got out on, in fact would like to get out more on if the weather improves. Also spoken to a mate who had a spill last year and he said it takes a while to get your confidence back. Getting there, just wary of it happening again as this is the second time I've been rear ended on a motorcycle and I have to say its not a nice experience!

Aye I know it takes a while, it's probably worse when it wasn't your fault too.
