Last week was in right spot at right time. Managed a ride on BMW. Amazing thing to ride, power, brakes, handling. Very different to 14. Too expensive for me, far too much hi tech also. Was good to ride latest, hate to see the cost if it fell over.

Grumpy old man

I agree too much tech

The biggest thing with that bike is my license would maybe last a month as it is incredibly deceiving as to how fast you are going whilst seeming like you are hardly moving

very easy to look down and see very naughty speeds that would land you in court

I rode one as a loan bike from a dealer that was trying very hard to sell me one I had it for 6 hours very nice bike and very well made BUT my license is how I make money ,Not to mention how much they cost to buy here in NZ

2020 model new is $29,995
2021 model new is $37,495 depending on spec and extras

I would hate to see the cost of one of those coolers that are exposed on the front

Grumpy, youre right. Speed just happens.  Other big thing, it felt so bloody light and the brakes, equal to any ive tried. Might get insurance quote on it this week, just out of interest. Bet its up there.

Just like the new Ducati streetfighter, the engine will always be clean because the two radiators cover the whole of the front of the bike and will take all the road crap.  I am hopein' to get a ride out on one soon though.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

mj, mate is looking for new bike, big bucks type. Super Duke, Streetfighter and New Triple Trump his list. He went to KTM,Ducati, both really showed him no interest in selling him one. No chance of test ride. Triumph were opposite, spent two hours with him. Guess which one hes getting. I wouldve thought youd try harder to sell 30 g bike.

Still looks like its been punched in the face and thrn hit up the rear end. Ive always likes ducati, but not this one. Gimme a 919 or  999 anyday
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

The S1000RX is an amazing machine, lots of grunt, the tech on it is pretty much the same as on my R1250GS, takes a while to get used to, but once you know how it works and operates its an absolute joy.

Very nearly bought one instead of my R1250GS, but as said previously, the S1000RX is a bit of a licence loser, also to be perfectly honest, the R1250GS handled and rode and suited my riding style much better.

Either way both were a much better ride than my previous Triumph Explorer which although a lovely machine again, was just too top heavy and a bit of a pig at slow speed. The GS on th eother hand is more tractable and flickable at low speed with the boxer engine.

But if I wanted to hoon around everywhere - then the S1000XR would be the machine to have, no doubt.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Undoubtedly a great machine but the cost is simply ridiculous.

I know I'll never be able to afford a new bike, and by the time these are 'affordable' second hand all the electronics will be on the verge of failure no doubt....

I was fortunate enough to be invited to Queensland Raceway for the launch of the XR a few years back. I got to thrash one around the track and ride with Chris Vermeulen former MotoGP rider. Where I was braking he was still accelerating  :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:

No wheel spin (traction control) or brakes locking up (ABS) and trying as hard as I dare, the technology is transforming motorcycling. The bike has a massive capacity computer :coffeescreen: , two gyros (forward/backward + lean angle) knows what gear you're in, throttle position etc. etc.

GSX, few years ago i passed Vermuellen. He was at garage, pump number 1, filling his scooter, i went to next pump. Does that count as passing?  :undecided:

Who left the garage first? Who got home first? I suppose you could always blame your pit crew Grog..... ;)

Know the feeling well, and it is still burned into my memory, pulling 200+ through what is now Stoner corner at Philip Island, hit MY braking point for Honda and Trevor Bloody Manley practicing for the upcoming PI GP on a 125 GP bike went past and changed UP TWICE, by the time I got through Honda  he was already negotiating Siberia, very eye opening and humbling  once in a lifetime experience
