Bloody government has just realised that forcing people onto electric cars is going to loose them a shit load of cash in taxes.  So after incentivising people to buy electric cars by offering cash back and no road tax they now want to charge to use the fucking roads.  They had better repair them before they start charging us to use them first.  Didn't this happen a few years ago by them telling us diesel was the way forward.

Haha - worse than that - I heard on the news last night that BoJo is considering bringing the date for banning the sale of petrol/diesel cars forward from 2040 to 2030. All very well BoJo but where is the infrastructure to support an all electric revolution
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Great so a few less fumes in awful places like Bradford will fix all the opencast mining etc needed for these fancy milkfloats marketed as leccy cars?  :whatever:

Imagine all the massive pollution that'll be created from having to generate all that extra electricity? A few solar panels and wind farms ain't going to go anywhere near covering the massive load that'll be created plus all the pollution and greenhouse gases created to make the wind turbines and chemicals needed to build the solar panels...super smart move. Politicians really should shut up.

The answer? Stop building new crap! Maintain and rebuild existing cars and motorcycles. Current new cars create precious little pollution these days. New cars create enormous pollution in the manfuacture. Stop, that's enough. Everyone has a car, everyone has a motorcycle. Create industries around restoring and rebuilding existing cars and bikes. They've already been built.

Do you recall those surveys a few years ago that proved building a car created more environmental damage that using it ever will?

They don't like to mention them though as in the UK it proved the most environmental friendly car was a big Jeep (I forget the model) as it could be recycled etc due to the plastics used. Hybrids came near the bottom of the list due to strip mining for precious metals etc etc.

I do and I've never forgotten it. It made such an impact on me because I'd never really thought of it that way before. People only compare the finished new product to the old product. Everything should be added up, like the environmental cost of building the old car as well.

Erm, call me old fashioned, but I thought the Road Tax I already pay is to enable me to use the roads? :confused1:

As that is apparently not enough, then maybe, just maybe, the lycra clad loonies on their pushbikes will chip in too, not forgetting the caravanners of course.....

.......because - All road users matter ;)

Stroll on - BoJo actually did it - "Ban on new petrol and diesel cars in UK from 2030"

Mad!  He'll be gone next time round & so will that law, one would hope, anyway.

We have clowns here that now want to ban the importation of combustion engine vehicles at around 2030.
Wonder if its ok to have a diesel generator to charge your Nissan Leaf
Apparently burning fossil fuels makes the snowflakes have a meltdown  :jack:
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

DP1400

Mad, agreed. But the seed is set so it won't matter who's in the high chair!
The reality is, I never buy new vehicles ( by choice for reasons of depreciation), so i'll still be able to purchase a nearly new petrol car. Thats unlikely to change in my lifetime.
The only way this will work and change the UK significantly over the next 50yrs is if they give away electric vehicles, and that just aint gonna happen!

Del

Electric vehicles seem to be the way everyone in the government (here and abroad) wants us all to go

now you very seldom see anyone running out of fuel these days
can you imagine the chaos when all the limited distance EV's start jamming up roads and motorways cause they have all ran out of electricity - and the older the EV gets the less distance as the batteries deplete

ive just finished watching Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman riding electric Harleys from Argentina to LA - they had a mare of a time and this was with a company putting charging poits along the way and they had support vehicles as well

So unless utterly billions is spent on getting roads - charging points and vehicles improved it just not going to happen
All Lives Matter
...until you multiply them by the speed of light squared. Then all lives energy.

Kiwifruit

No Del every new EV will be fitted with a diesel generator instead of a spare wheel.

Recently heard of a guy setting up a ute with a genny to give you a charge that will get you to the next charging point. That service won't cost much I'm sure
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

KiwiCol

You could put the Genny on a roof rack so you keep all the inside room.   :onya:  :whistling:

I can see us ending up like Cuba. Just keep 'em going after 2030...

My clown of a neighbour has one of those heat pumps. First cold night last night - thing has been screaming its head off for hours now. Cannot cope with drop in temperature. Heaven help us when they try to foist these creations on us all. The national grid will go into meltdown.  :whatever:
