How do you know if your bike has an aftermarket ignition advancer...

I had the signal generator cover off the other night but didnt know if it was an aftermarket one or the standard..

i think if you look at the topic on this you can see from the pic of the advancer if they have been filed or they are normal and not been filed

,,, when i took a look at the pic i could see the holes  that they had done and you could see the difference in the old and the new

but if you wont to see wot others say then wait for the masters  of the site to come to your aid :)
look check and look again  then you see the fool

Quite simple. The aftermarket one is like a bright brass colour, whereas the standard ignition wheel is more black/grey in colour.

But also check that someone hasn't done the ignition advancer mod (you'll see the backplate filed if they have)

I made that "ignition advanser mod" to my back plate. 0-5 degrees. I tested and tested, and the result was 2 degrees in my naturally aspirated engine. 4 degrees was too much in that setup. Now I use 2 degrees retard ignition in my forced aspirating setup. And some other mods also...

Shiny silver is new to me! - aftermarket is definitely a brassy/gold type look. Below is a picture of the OEM standard one and the aftermarket one so you can see the difference.

Actually the OEM one is easy to spot - it has 42F0 stamped on it, aftermarket doesn't

I'd imagine mine is standard defo looks more like the first pic...

Does it make much difference fitting one?

On mine I found it made acceleration just a little bit tauter and crisper, however the jury is out 50:50 saying it makes a difference to it doesn't make any difference. There is no power gained or lost at all, as I say it just seems a little crisper on acceleration.

Easiest way though is save your money and slot the back plate. Does exactly the same thing

Looks like a simple job for this winter. I have read about the possible benefits in the low rpm`s but am also interested in the disadvantages of doing this for the higher rpm`s. Anyone?

I went to change my standard one over to the 4* advancer this afternoon kindly given to me by Seth but unfortunately the central allan bolt that needs loosened would not budge at all....think i need to set about it with an impact driver to try and loosen it.......i decided to step away from the bike, put the tools away and head to the fridge for a beer instead rather than risk rounding off the bolt....
