Let's hope they don't become too valuable as I have had a few, bikes and cars that did and it's in someways disappointing when things you love using become too valuable to use, so you then become precious about using them

Well just for reference, I traded mine in last week. It was a standard 2006 registered K5, with a few slight upgrades like rear hugger, fender extender, heated grips and stainless radiator guard. Apart from that very clean and tidy but not 'showroom'. Mileage was 17,500.

I got £4000 against the new bike, which I thought was fair. We started at £3500 and after some mild haggling that's where we ended up. Of course these values aren't particularly meaningful because another way of looking at it is I got £3500 trade in and £500 off the bike I was buying. All that really matters is the cost to change.

But anyway it suited me. I could have sold it on eBay but then I would have to deal with hordes of idiots and time wasters and I doubt I would have made significantly more. I would have probably put it up for £4500 and then ended up taking £4K anyway because it's October and not that many people are buying. By the time I did all that the bike I wanted could be gone.

Incidentally this is the first time I have ever sold a bike for more than I paid for it - I bought it for £3800 just over 3 years ago. But I have spent a fair bit fixing it up so it's not actually profit.

I will keep an eye out on the classified ads to see if it comes up for sale.

Im on the lookout for another 14 now and after a mint low miler to use and dont care if using it devalues it because what's the point of having it in the first place if I dont use it....
That still wont stop me paying top book for it as Im bloody anal and need it to be mint but not to make any money just what I want.....
People who buy them to hide them to hopefully make a killing one day are bumping up the prices and making me have to pay more for one....but each to their own and I do think one day they will be a collector but who cares....Im not going to let it sit in the garage all them years to make a couple of grand profit when I can use it...just my thoughts 👍🏻

DP1400

I bought my very nice K3, genuine 23000mls, 18 months ago from a guy who was retiring from bikes (due to age and health issues) for £3500 cash. He also threw in some very useful goodies too. I`ve been more than pleased with my purchase.....

......I could have spent £7k on a minter, but here`s the thing - I bought it to ride, not to look at. I`d have spent £7000 on a painting (or an FS1E ), if all i wanted to do was look at the thing!

I`ve no doubt that I could sell it now for more than I paid for it, but that doesn`t interest me, `cause then i`d be back to square one wouldn`t I?

Without doubt, `14`s will increase in value over time, but, on paper at least, they`ll never become extremely valuable until they become rare, and that`s not likely to happen for 20yrs.

One day when i`m even more worn out than I am now, i`ll no doubt sell it and get my money back. In the meantime, i`ll ride and enjoy it, clean it and maintain it correctly, without the worry of whether its gonna rain or not while i`m out!

We went for a 200 mile dash the other day, an hour into the ride and i could hardly see for rain. Arrived home with a very sad looking `14. Spent half-hour washing/cleaning it the following morning and she`s good to go again, no harm done! Now thats biking, with no detriment to its resale value in the future! :onya:

They are made to buy, set up properly, ride, enjoy and repair as needed.

Hooli

That's what I've always done.

My 2007 K7 has 90,000km just over 50,000 miles would be higher but I use multiple bikes, only cleaned with degreaser and soapy water, no highly polished parts. It is well maintained mechanically, and is a work horse. It will be worth lots in the future because it still has the standard exhaust fitted.

Irish, not at all the way id have mine, but i do like it. Well done. 14 are great we know, i really like the way each person has different ideas. I love looking at each take on them, ill never bag anothers perfect. Maybe one, remember that brown one, such a waste. Also the chopper one. Mate at work has annoyed me, slandered my old skool bike for years. Guess what hes now looking to buy.

I bought my K5 in 2015 with 45,000 km on the clock for AU $5,000.

The bike is fairly original and standard. I have an OEM muffler as well as a Staintune muffler which came with the bike. Front disks have been replaced. I have since replaced the tyres with Angel GTs as well as a new chain, sprockets and battery.

Apart from the above I've only changed the oil and filter.

The bike was test ridden and approved by Irish in Oz prior to purchase.

Thanks Jeff, this one is a keeper as well.

Good lookin bike Mate. I just dont like bazookas , just me. Youre buying price was what my Ducati mate lost trading his 2 yr old on new model. I know whos got the better.

The test ride on the blue and white, the big noticeable difference is the black one is faster even with the bazooka.
