What I want to know is how to take off that fast without doing a wheelie. I've been told to be very careful with the throttle in first and second so I am.

Lean forward and feed the power in. When I used to launch fast I could hold Busas n Gixxer thoud till 100mph or so, then they'd bugger off.

Don't think I could do it now as I've not tried for years.

SA, 14 is quick for what it is. Just doesnt have top end. Busa, R1, MT10,Gixxer just scary after 6k revs.

Same as the Kawasaki ZH2, bland with no character below 6k then just goes fuckin nuts and throws you at the horizon.  1400 is a much better every day bike with bags of character (unusual for a straight four) which doesn't need 6k to get interesting.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

If these 14s are described as "lacking top end" then I'm not sure I need any more. I mean, for crying out loud. I come from the time when Kwaka 9s were brutes and GSX1100s were insane and only for suicidal humans. They were considered so fast, so powerful that I literally didn't want one because I thought I'd just kill myself the instant I touched the throttle. If anyone would have told me I'd be riding a GSX1100 bored out to 1400 (!) with fuel injection (!!), 12 front brake pistons (!!!) and hundreds of different suspension settings combinations (!!!!) and would look so beautiful that everyone wanted one - if not admired them, I'd say it was time for you to get a check up from the neckup.

I can almost not believe I own such a beast of a motorcycle. It's got so much power and torque I can barely hang on as it is. The fact there are even faster bikes that will leave this in their dust is stunning but immaterial. This is way more bike than I've ever dreamed of owning. If I can ever get close to being able to ride it to it's (even) stock capabilities you can stick a fork in me because I'm done.

That said, I plan to keep getting instruction and lessons until I can race it at the drags and on the circuit and I can ride it to it's maximum capabilities and until then I'm just going to smile every time I remember I have one in my shed, I own the keys, it's insured, fueled up and ready to ride whenever I please.

DP1400

I watched this video a while back and i must say, i couldn`t understand why the Yam pilot made such a hash of getting the thing away from the line!

Thats tacking absolutely nothing away from the well used `14 though.....in fact its quite amazing that a `14 can and will show a clean pair of heels to almost any so called sports bike, to 80mph or so. What happens above 80 is quite irrelevant on everyday roads, the fun is enjoying how you get there. The `14 can always provide hugs grins in that respect.

Imagine a test with a `mighty` Z1 against a 15 year younger sports bike? The Z1 would have looked to be travelling in reverse......not so the truly awesome `14.
