Nice bit of kit Stan  :onya:

4 litres of brake fluid Baz .......  you going to bath in it  :stir:

Lol yeah, a bit extreme but here's my thinking; I wasn't sure how much I'd need for a complete flush of each system, plus I'm a noob so I figured I'd fucknit up in some way and would need to do it several times. Plus I really wanted to make sure I completely drained the system if any old fluid because a) it's a new bike to me and b) it's been sitting by the ocean unprotected for 2 of those 5 years and in (I presume) a non climate controlled garage for the last 3 years. I just want to make sure (running out of brake fluid isn't something I need to worry about while I focus on my first brake and clutch system flush ever. I wasn't sure I could tell when the old fluid was completely out of my system. Although now I've read the thread on this in the tech forum I might use my vacuum bleeder to completely drain all systems (if that's possible) just to be sure, to be sure.

I also don't have any in the garage at all so I wanted to at least have one spare bottle and once opened, it's not good to keep an opened bottle for long so if I bought a larger container it'd "spoil" with moisture which is why I bought 4 x 1 litre containers. Plus 1 litre is only $1 more per litre than a larger container.

I knew it'd get a head shake but better safe than sorry and I like to stack as many things in my favour as possible I guess. It's only $40.

Just out of curiosity how much would I have needed (absolute minimum) to completely flush all three systems?

1 would have covered it i`ve done 3 cars and 2 bikes with a 4 litre bottle and still have some left, don`t run it dry, just keep topping up the reservoirs as air is harder to get out than old fluid especially on front brakes with lots of junctions

Very good purchase Stan. Must get one. Old pic of my mates set up. He made the yellow lift and centre lift fits on top, mostly free space to work around bike. He had another adapter to lift his Rocket the same, so sure was strong. Cant find pic of Rocket up in air, a great sight.

Two things today. Tomorrow is my Birthday so it was time for a shopping trip to gumtree to buy an old tool. Not exactly classic British engineering but I picked up this 16 speed floor drill press made in Taiwan but the Porsche brand is quite good (compared to today's flimsy units). Picked it up for $180 (asking price) plus a few bucks and he delivered it. Stoked. It's got good castings, fully adjustable bed and a morse taper (is that the right term) so I can remove the chuck and put in big bits or milling attachments if I want. Also might look for a milling dual axis vice so I can start milling stuff. I'm gearing up for making things but things are cool...as is stuff.

Oh...and my other engine cover arrived so now I have a matching set. The clear coating is quite disappointing especially down the sides so I've decided to strip it off, polish them up to a mirror shine then a triple ceramic coat so I never have to re-polish. Can't wait to get started. Lots to play with.

I've got a bench mount pillar drill, I just need a workshop & a bench now.

I've been without a decent shed/garage for over 8 years so I'm loving it. Mine's even got a single door so perfect for just a bike (double car space though) and I'm loving the space. I look forward to finally being able to work on the 14 and make stuff. I even have an outer area for blacksmithing work if I need. Slowly rebuilding my tools (long story but I lost everything in a financial "hiccup"). I love buying old and used gear to both save money as well as get higher quality (win win).

A bit confused; what's a pillar drill? How does it differ from a bench or pedestal drill? I did a quick google but it's not clear.

Hooli

it might be the wrong term, it's like yours but a shorter 'pole' so it stands on a bench not the floor.

My bikes due a service at the weekend so I've been online and ordered a fumoto quick drain valve, oil catch tray, oil and air filter, filter removal tool. On Saturday I visit Halfords, pick up their oil and a small socket set as my brother has liberated my old set. :coffeescreen: :boogie:

There's no room due to the crank case, crank etc...

Just bought a new set of J.I.S. screwdrivers, so no more ruining heads and swearing

Hooli

JIS screwdrivers are great, I just wish I could find some 1/4" bits to put in my little socket set to make them easier to carry on the bike.

Got them! they are large ones (& it took two attempts to get more than one size supplied). I was hoping for smaller ones to suit little screws like brake reservoir tops etc as well.

I'll just have to find room under the seat for the screwdrivers it seems.

Today i bought nothing. Want a new tyre gauge. Mate has Bluepoint, work just got Wurth. Tried both, bloody brilliant but over $100 each. Looking at E Bay copies at $20. They look exact same, digital display looks same. I reckon brand names are same unit. Which would you buy? They make bike tyre adjusting so easy, Wurth & Bluepoint. Not a tight arse but same for less i like. Neither brand names say where made, i reckon i know. Alemlube also nice but nearly $400.
