Don't take the bolt out unless you need too. Several members have found it never stays tight afterwards & needs replacing. The thinking is it's a slight stretch bolt and doesn't work after being done up once.

When you take the LH cover off, take note of which two bolts have dowty washers on (top & bottom near the middle I think) as if they don't go back in the same holes it'll leak.
Also you'll need to wiggle the starter gear back in place as it always comes out with the casing, to do so turn the crank backwards slightly with a screwdriver levering the gears so the starter pinion can locate.
Oh & watch your fingers, the magnets around the stator mean the cover slams back into place & will sodding hurt if your fingers are underneath.

Yep, thanks. I've been reading the articles posted on here about removing covers plus have downloaded all the manuals and my treeware manual arrived the other day. I'm just nervous enough not to rush. If the bolts are stretch bolts maybe I should order a fresh set of bolts?

Its only the big bolt that goes into the crank & holds the magnet for the stator that seems to need replacing. All the bolts to remove the cover & indeed the stator from the cover are fine to reuse. Mine have been off three or four times now without issue as I'm on my third stator.

Thanks for clearing that up.
