On one of the news reports they say that fireworks were also stored in the same warehouse and in one of the videos on the internet you can plainly see flashes through the smoke moments before it all exploded. I must say I've never seen an explosion on that magnitude before, I've seen controlled detonations by the military of captured ordnance, but nothing like that.

I think those flashes were electric cables melting and shorting out, not fireworks.  However, storing that together isn't smart, storing over 2000kg of ammonium nitrate together in one place  is just plain idiotic.

They already store heaps there - in a purpose built facility. The situation is entirely UNLIKE that in Lebanon.
