Hi there all, I have just re joined after several years off line and have a question which I hope someone here can help me with. Bike been stood for just over a year and though still rides well after an oil and filter change, there seems to be a slight stutter now and again, it happens at different Rpm, gear I am in and speed it is just momentary but is there and is annoying. plan to clean the injectors but wonder if replacement maybe a better option?? I met someone 3yr ago who had swapped his throttle bodies and injectors for ones out of a GSX1000, obviously dyno run required to set up but would it be worth it? Thanks all look forward to hearing your ideas.

I've not heard of the swop of throttle bodies but sounds a bit job to sort the problem you are describing .
I'd suggest you go through all the plug in the loom (including the headlight) and check they are clean and well connected .
Go through the fuel system and check the fuel pump (teabag filter ) and give the bike a good service with new spark plugs also check the adjustment on the throttlecables as that can make a big difference to the bike running
Hopefully that will help it run much better .
Have a look through forums and threads as loads of info on the minor running problems that bother the gsx1400.
As for fitting gsxr1000 throttle bodies
If they are bigger you'll release some extra bhp but you'll also need to do some head work to get the benefits of the swop .

Allo,

I'd clean the tank out, run it with injector cleaner (or posh fuel that contains it) and see how it goes for a bit. I've known 14s left a lot longer than that which run fine after a little bit of use.

Welcome Mate. There was a big story once on old org about changing throttle bodies. It had pics, which to mod to fit etc. I cant remember any details but it was done. From memory the spacing of intake match was ok but mounting holes was problem. Someone solved it but all lost now. Would be a good one to have back.

Thanks, I will continue to poke about see what turns up on the subject. It may well have been where I got the thread from in the first place, brain a bit soggy these days, it's an age thing.

Thanks guys will update as I progress through the old girl, have now finished the service and added a load of injector cleaner to fresh fuel see where that takes me. I have this week worked through every electrical connector on the bike, and given them a thorough clean and a good squirt of contact cleaner. will run for a few days and if no improvement then fuel pump and tea bag will be removed and checked.

I you do any more to the fuel pump apart from cleaning the tea bag don't forget to wire it back up.  Once the white plastic clip that holds the high pressure side has been disturbed the pump tends to fall apart just when you don't want it to.  Don't ask how I know  :whistling:

These Chinese injector cleaners work OK to check/clean injectors, they connect to a can
of carb clean and you use 12v to fire the injectors, good ones spray out freely, bad ones don't.

Yes I know it's not the same as sending them away for a clean and getting a nice metered flow rate graph.

Well I have just returned from a nice long ride out on the old girl and she was near faultless, I had a couple of coughs at near tick over in 2nd while rolling the throttle on and it still tries to die a little if you blip between down changes. Apart from that it pulled cleanly and with its usual get up and go. I will check the tea bag filter over the weekend just to see what effect that has, then it is back to the rollers see what they show up. As an after thought I have just fitted a set of chinese clock surrounds and am impressed with the finish and the fit of them given the £75 asking price, old ones gave up the ghost when one of our feathered friends dive bombed them, given the cost the dealers wanted for genuine suzuki replacements I can buy 4 from china!!!
