Hi, just been chatting with a mate who has a blackbird. He was going to take it for a run to the coast last weekend and got everything packed and ready to go the day before. One last thing to do, go down to the local garage to fill up so he was ready to hit the road early morning. As usual fills up with Super Unleaded and goes in to pay. The cashier looks at him strangely and then says "I've never new they made diesel motorbikes" 😳😂🤣😂  My mate says he will never leave the house again without his glasses 🤓

I've heard of loads of people filling cars with diesel instead of petrol but never a bike. Anyone else done this?

Johno

In a word N0.

At least he became aware of the issue before it went through his entire fuel system. I assume removing diesel from the bike tank is relatively easier than most other vehicles.

I've heard of a few diesel tractors given a dose of petrol. Costly issue.

My wife told me about similar case from here.
And now that biker lady has a nickname DIESEL

Come on Irish ... OWN UP. :rofl2: :rofl2:
Yes I did it, realised when I hung up the nozzle, lucky I didn't even turn on the ignition to prime the pump.
They tell me it's a good weed killer, I have a diesel car and funny enough I don't seem to smell it as much when filling it I suppose the trigger guns are better, remember when the diesel pumps where on their own and it was all over the concrete.

One of my boys runs a garage, people do it quite often, diesel into petrol cars and vice versa....
He drains tanks a I get it to light bonfires in my paddock...  lol

My Mate didn't start his bike. Called a local bike shop and got it picked up and drained. £23 in wasted diesel  and another £25 to get his bike picked up and drained. Got very lucky in my opinion. Was also thinking diesel doesn't seem to pong as much as it used to. Also, whatever happened to the pre-recorded message at a lot of pumps that used to warn you that you were about to fill up with diesel?

The garage wouldn't allow me to decant on the premises so it was done at the side of the road, removed tank. Lucky I knew an old bloke that lived up the road sitting with his feet up having a beer. He returned with a couple of 20ltr drums in his car and took it away without paying for it.
Cost me $20 about 10 quid, and nearly got caught by the highway patrol that chased us 30 minutes earlier.

Noticed at a BP the other day that there were 2 ultimate nozzles on the one pump with the same design, just different colors, I know you have to take responsibility, but they shouldn't make it so easy to stuff up

My old boss had a diesel Audi A6 Quattro  and he put petrol in but noticed b4 he started the car.Audi sent out a recovery vehicle and tried to charge him £4K !! He argued and they reduced they charge To£1500 ffs - a mechanic drove e the car out of the workshop and Bill set off home - after 3 miles engines warning light came on - Audi recovered the A6 again - turned out after the first repair the mechanic refilled the car with PETROL !!!  :bugga:

I think the term mechanic is being used loosely here

Neither is good, but diesel in a petrol engine is better than petrol in a diesel. Petrol is a solvent and destroys any lubricant layer, basically kills diesel fuel  pumps and injectors, leading to full engine rebuilds.

Diesel in a petrol engine doesnt burn fully and gums up injectors, but engine will generally survive
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.
