Well, I decided that it's such a nice sunny day in Sunderland I'd get the old girl out and give her a run out as it's been to long since she was out. I noticed a couple of times that she seems to be sluggish in starting off the button compared to normal and sometimes she'd just crank over and not start at all today, stop cranking and wait a second or two and fire's straight into life. I gave her a 2 hour stop/start kind of ride and on returning home pulled onto the driveway and turned her off to open the garage door, got back on and nothing, battery was dead. any suggestions from you chaps would be appreciated and also a good battery replacement option as I've put one off my triumph on and she fired straight up and good charging on the multi-meter.

It's just a dead battery Tony & you proved that by using a new battery.   It's because the battery has been sitting, not being used / charged, it's now no longer able to supply the CCA required to spin the bike over.  It'll charge up & show 12.6 - 13.5volts alright, but the CCA is way down.

Just buy a new battery & all will be well.  Yuasa YTX14-BS from memory, or buy a gel one, but that's a whole other can of worms . . . .
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

If the battery goes too flat, then it goes past the point of no return, whereby it will hold a charge for a very short time and then lose it - which is what has happened here. Unfortunately, new battery will be the only solution
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Yuasa is the g.o.  dont worry about lithium ones or gel ones, just a std lead acid (sealed of course) will get you sorted.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

that's a great price but you have to pay in store so that's too risky for me  :bugga:

Last time I got a battery for my 14 I walked to Halfrauds with the dog to get it. That was a silly idea, they get quite heavy after a couple of miles on the way home.
