I know what you're all going to say, 'cos they ain't used anymore, BUT, got to the back of one of the garages yesterday, & pulled out the GS1000G, & 2 x 1400s, 1st 1400 fired up & ran perfik, as did the second, the GS took maybe 15-20 seconds until fuel got through, then that too ran fine.
Round the block a few times on a 1400, ran ok, but felt 'iffy' came back & pressed up the tyres!!
Second one, fired up , in gear, clutch out, BAM!  Good job I had front brake on as it stalled as if no clutch, realized clutch was seized, pulled the cover, then the slave assy, working perfect, so tried the old 'remedy' , got it warmed up, & kept clutching in & out & in & out of gear, stopped the engine every time, so I have a WELL stuck clutch.

Guess what the program is for today??

Lawrie, its well stuck. Never had 14 do that but my old gs1000g did it lots. I used to just get out and ride it, always came free. Guess you cant do that at present. WhatDo you think its caused by.  Had gsx1100 same time as 1000, same oil, never ever got stuck. Always found this strange, 2 bikes similar, one sticks, one doesnt.

Sorted!!
Pulled the clutch assy, initially it looked ok, pressure-plate off, ok, first few plates ok, then, the next 4 or 5 came away as a 'lump',
then the rest ok.
SO, a fair bit of effort prizing them apart to find they had quite badly rusted together, long time standing & condensation methinks.
All friction plates & pressure plates degreased, then the pressure plates were well burnished on the bench rotary wire brush, followed by a flap-wheel on the drill-press, they came up very well actually, but of course, it can happen again in the future.
All put back together, fired up & YES!!  We have gears, ran it round the block a few times & its back to normal again.
No where open for oil, but I found a new can of fully synth, so bunged that in, not right but hey, any oil is better than no oil, right???

Is it ok to use fully synth or should I replace it as soon as poss, not being used anyway.

Fully synthetic won't hurt Lawrie, might even help with the clutch.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

I think its OK as a stop gap Lawrie, but once this lock down is over, personally I'd change it back to what you usually use
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

If it's bike oil it should be fine.
