Right. Ive got a K2.
Only had it four weeks. In that time, I've had to seal the tank because of a pin prick hole and a new  battery.
When stood still it will rev to 8700.
But, out on the road, any quick throttle twists will make it cough but accelerate to 4500 rpm, then start to splutter
If you slowly open the throttle, it will make 5000 rpm. Then splutter and won't go any faster.
If you give it a fist full at 5000 rpm, it just splutters and dies.
I've checked the coils, plug caps, TPS, even fitted a new fuel pump. But, no. Nowt, zilch, sweet fa. It still won't pull over 4500.
Just rang previous owner he said he never had that problem. But, he fitted a twist grip from a GSxr 1000 and then it spluttered at 4500 but he could still get it to 7-8000 rpm.
Any ideas would be greatfully appreciated before I decide to break it for spares

Andre

Cleaned the high pressure filter? Secured the white clip that keeps the pressure regulator in place?

What Andre said - but then I do wonder about that twist grip and whether the cables are adjusted correctly as it turns. I'd also fit the standard twist grip back.

One other thought - you mention a pin prick in the tank - do check and clean the tea bag on the filter could well be that the pump is full of crud and isn't pumping enough juice through

Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

It had a new pump and teabag filter fitted yesterday. I replaced them hoping it would get rid of this problem but the problem still exists.
The bike didn't come with the original throttle.

TPS & STPS adjusted & working correctly?

TPS is bang on. Will check stps tomorrow.
Would a faulty fuel regulator also do the same problems as I am experiencing ?

KiwiCol

Similar, but usually the bike won't start.

I know it's a new pump n filter, but a check on the flow rate & pressure may be in order here.

I was thinking after reading, it sounds like fuel & the secondarys in particular.  Snapey has posted about a magnet in there coming loose & causing weird shit running too.

A new pump and tea bag will do SFA if you don't do the high pressure filter. You can try back flushing it with carby cleaner but that's only a temporary fix. An external filter is the better option.
If you look like your passport photo then you're too sick to travel.

Morning Snapey.
Just woke up to your reply.
I could well be interested in doing that mod. Is it you've done yourself ?  And if you did, what did you do ?

grog

I reckon high pressure is your prob, certainly sounds like. External mod all on here, have a search. Mines been done quite a while, wasnt even running bad but made it even better. Can of worms on this idea but mine no prob.

Thanks Kiwi Col.
Will check it out shortly.
Will check the stps first before I have to disconnect the fuel tank. Those clips are a bastard.

Stps was a little bit out, but whilst tank is off, I will pull fuel pump out again and reverse it, see if some shite comes out.

Iain

Well, I've reset the stps which, when you've got big hands, is bloody awkward.
It was a smidge out.
Also did a heath Robinson bodge on the fuel pressure regulator.
And I took it for a quick spin. Yes, I know we are on lock down, but it was essential. 😁😁😁
What a feckin difference it's made. No spluttering. It revs all the way through to the red line, no problem.
I will get round to getting rid of the high pressure filter, one day.

Thank you everyone for your advice 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
