I thought diversions in the UK were a joke at times...

But it looks like our convict chums win this one.

Wow!

And I thought the 10 hour/700km diversion I had to drive in New Zealand last year to get from Franz Josef to Christchurch (due to a landslip) was enough!!!
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

That's only a slight little detour for us  :whistling: :happy1:
What a joke

Yep the key being sealed roads.

Everyone up there uses unsealed roads most of the time. The only problem? Unsealed roads turn to gloopy largely impassable mud with any decent rain.  And it's Northern Australia so rain is not exactly uncommon.

Nobody will use the detour, they'll just wait it out as always.  :)

I can imagine Steve Grahame of Outback Truckers pained expression when he saw that.

Then he'd just go for it.

The short way.

My least favourite word whilst riding through Germany last year quickly became umleitung (their word for diversion). People say Germans have no sense of humour but I believe this does not include the road works/transport dept! We must have circled Speyer four times following the umleitung signs trying to find a way out, and this was not the only occasion it caused us problems when we were there. In another instance whilst following a diversion we got to a t-junction with signs saying umleitung both to the left and the right - no place names or road numbers - hilarious  :rofl2:

Beautiful country though

Not such a bad place to get locked in though Speyer

I was lucky enough to go there with work last year and it has some lovely old buildings and a very good transport museum & a proper relaxed atmosphere, I'm sure that it also has much more to offer and is one of those places that I have thought it would be nice to return to in the future with the family

Cheers

Croatian diversions are fun too. If they are rebuilding a junction they just send you off down the unmade roadbed so you're riding over mud, gravel & rocks. After the first one I slowed down a bit more for them.
