Something a bit different

Hi, I posted some photos of my first K2 in my "Hello from Guernsey" introduction and I finally managed to acquire another K2 last October (2019). So not being afraid to try something a bit different I set about stripping the bike down on the day I bought it.

My friend Tony bought the first blue & white K2 in Guernsey and the GSX 1400 turned out to be one of the best selling bikes over here. Tony bought his second K2 about 18 months ago and he decided to get it repainted the same colour as his Ford Focus ST.

The colour for my project is a Mazda Soul Red. Both bikes had their wheels powder-coated in a brighter white (they look great but need a lot of cleaning to keep them shining  :8: ). I didn't want too much chrome so the replacement fork stanchions from Brook Suspension were given a black anodised coating. The engine crash bars are powder-coated in black. The aluminium parts have been polished to give it a little bit of bling

The real 'marmite' modification is the 2004 Fireblade fairing. My first K2 had a Fazer 1000 fairing, an idea I borrowed from another GSX1400 forum. Apart from the face-change I have a 3000 mile trip planned this summer and I'm fairly confident motorway journeys will be a tad more comfortable with this modification. The standard bars were swapped for Renthal low fat bars.

A few purists out there have already made their feelings known about radical changes but I'm pleased with the finished look so as far as I'm concerned that's all I was aiming for  :boogie: So I'll put my hard had on and let you make up your own minds up what you think.

Omg.. how could you do that!

Please proceed  :rofl2:

Not totally convinced about the fairing but that aside I think it looks great - very nice!

I often wonder about my old K2 as originally it was registered in Guernsey in 2002.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Your bike could be in amongst this gathering of about 20 K1's and K2's !

Looks a bloody awesome job!   :clapping: :onya:
The fairing gives the bike a different look, but being colour coded to match the bike, it doesn't look out of place, just different.

I'd be very interested to know if that fairing puts the wind blast over your helmet, mine directed it straight at my head, not good, so modified my screen.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

I like the paint scheme and especially the color. Black for the shock springs, red classic headlamp and it would be one of my favorites

A really great paint choice which suits the bike big-time, very nice job too by the look of it. Afraid the fairing & mirrors spoil it for me - too angular and therefore alien to the look of the bike. All the other detailing bits look terrific. :onya:

Absolutely - one of the B&W ones perhaps. Shame I don't have the logbook anymore as it used to show the Guernsey number it had, might have helped trace it.

Very unique both of them. The SV fairing is quite a good look IMHO. The bottom line though is it's yours and to your taste. Well done both of you  :hat: :hat: :salute: :notworthy: :worshippy: :clapping: :onya: :boogie:

And everyone knows B&W are the fastest anyhoo  :stir: :stir: :stir:
