Hi

I can imagine a few of you choking and gasping having read the title.

I can only apologise, but has anyone tried fitting early '70's Kawasaki Z1 900 handle bars to a GSX1400 ?

I imagine the GSX cables/wiring will be too short for the higher bars, but thought it worth the ask here.
(I'm not interested in fitting bar risers to the top yoke to gain extra height with std bars)  I'm just preferring the Z1 style.   :whistling:

I`m guessing this would be more trouble than its worth, either with the UK or USA spec Z1 bars, the latter being significantly higher.
Even assuming the diameter of the bars is the same to fit your clamps, you`re right in that you`d have to probably obtain longer cables, the other issue of course is, would there be enough room at each bar end to take the Suzuki design grips, brake & clutch fluid resers?
If you`re not comfortable with the bars you already have fitted you could consider a Renthal replacement giving the same rake & height of the old Z1?

I fitted drag bars to mine, needed raised clamps and need yet another 25mm to get the angle right. The switch blocks are just missing the tank by mm ATM.
The initial attraction to motorcycling inflicts people for various reasons and at different stages in their lives. But once someone experiences the elation of riding a motorcycle there's no denying the nearly spiritual effect it has.

EssexBoyDave fitted higher bars to his 14 - whether they were XS650 or Z1 I can't recall - but I do seem to remember that fitting them took the e siting cables to their extreme even with some re-routing.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

I met a chap at Abergavenny a couple of years ago who had Z1 bars on his 1400, I'm sure he told me they fitted with standard cables (with a bit of jiggery pokerey).
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

after a 5 min ride I couldn't wait to change to lower bars....   I have several sets including flats but went with BSA A10 bars I think they are ?
much better for me anyway.
