Update:

I'm now convinced it's electronic of some kind.

Routing around the wiring loom checking all plugs etc and come across this little thing. Now seeing as it says "race use only" I'm assuming it's not factory fitted.

So unplugged it and connected the two harness plugs back together and she idled and ran perfect for 2-3 minutes no problems at all so thought ahh! Solved! But then upon giving a few revs, she quickly started misfiring, pumped out black smoke and cut out.

If I re-attach the little box or keep it removed it's still misfires and cuts out. back to square 1 again. I'm thinking has this box upset the main ECU or something? Or does now all sensors need re-calibrating?

Mrg

well i am pretty sure ive not got one of them on my bike  ........ ??? unless it hidden ive never seen it ,,, got to be some kind of mod

Hi Mrg

I've been doing research and it's a box that connects in between the gear seletor sensor and the engine ecu. The ecu has got set 'maps' for fuel & ignition delivery depending on what gear you're in.

Basically the maps set by Suzuki restrict fuel and spark when in certain gears for eco reasons. This box blanks out those signals, thus allowing the ecu to deliver the fuel and spark the engine needs when it want its, instead of the ecu telling the engine what to do.

However this is not the problem I thought it was, as I've been digging all day to find out.

This little sensor was missing its little rubber hose from the bottom which terminates on the throttle bodies. I thought this was some kind of temp sensor. Clearly not as when I connected the awol pipe I had - it to (not thinking that it's actually suppose to be there anyway) started her up and bingo. All perfectly fine! Obviously this is some kind of vacuum sensor.

Bottom line.. I forgot to connect a pipe.

Mrg

yes i did have   one like that i had a Scot oilier fitted and when i took it off to clean and service and remount latter ,, i didn't know about the vacuum pipe connected to the throttle body ... cos it used the air vacuum to draw the oil around the pump ,, as i understand it ;;; well  i didn't block this pipe off when i ran the bike for a short while ,,, and it made a difference in running  ,, so now its back on its all ok  but i had the small issue of my camshaft sensor  but that is all ok  now  :onya:

Remember I said about the little vacuum hose.................so that was the one eh? Well found that man! Glad all is now good

As for the S-TRE - What it does is advance the ignition 4 degrees in gears 1-4, arguably giving slightly tauter acceleration. So if you ever fit an ignition advancer take it off else you will double advance the ignition
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

You did mention about a pipe yep, and I thought it was sorted as the one I was looking at was the one that's connected to a 3 way diaphragm of some sort which splits off into two bigger pipes going to either side of the cam cover.

Turns out there's 'two' pipes haha!

Thanks all  :worshippy:

glad you found it and all is well  :boogie:

Graham..
That is the IAP sensor. The hose has to be disconnected from it to balance the throttle bodies. If you forget to reconnect it, the bike runs like a crock of sh*t...
Been there and got the t-shirt :imrgreen:
