OK, OK. I'm replacing my chain and sprockets and came across something that, maybe, just isn't right on my bike. I don't know.

The sprocket retainer that fits snugly into the bearing within the sprocket drum (which the axle goes through) appears to not sit flush BUT protrudes a little. Photos show this. Also my sprocket drum (I believe) could sit lower within my wheel. I push it down with and without the retainer installed and it seems to fit further in the wheel without, if only slightly. I haven't finalized installion or tightened anything yet.

Thoughts guys.

Hi SheepDog,

Have you felt in through the inner race as to if the bearing is fully seated into the sprocket carrier? There should not be a gap between the outer race rim and the hub AFAIK.

Recently replaced my wheel and sprocket bearings, im trying  to recall if it sat flush or not. Pretty sure the complete carrier sits flush into the wheel.

As @Eric GSX1400K3 says I'd be checking you gave the bear fully seated and if you have check it's the correct size of bearing.
Good luck

I checked that the bearing was seated completely and it was within the sprocket carrier.
I checked that the rear wheel bearings were all seated and that the spacer between the two bearing was snug.
I don't have a bearing puller to extract the sprocket bearing BUT did try to knock it out via a 31mm socket from inside the sprocket on a piece of timber, but no cigar. This bad boy is in tight and I'm not forcing it yet (wont fit in my vice, where I can try to squeeze it out but closing the vice on it).
I might have to invest in a G clamp or something.

Still interested if someone can tell me that their sprocket retainer protrudes like mine or should be flush. This would really help knowing.
Thanks guys  :onya:

Just went and had a look at mine through the sprocket cutouts and it looks the same as yours,It`s never had new bearings, so factory fresh

See attached, I reckon your spacer might be in backward.  According to the workshop manual,  there should also be clearance between the l&r bearings and the crush tube

Close up, looking at where the spacer sits in relation to the carrier, it does sit proud. note this is from the K3/4 manual.
