My oil cooler on the 1400 has started to leak now from the bottom left hand corner of the radiator. Been told the Hel one is really good. Found one and a stock one in Australia for sale on ebay. I am based in Sydney but the used Hel one doesnt have any hoses with it. Anyone from Australia know where i can get some hoses for it?? I am guessing the original hoses dont fit the Hel one. Unless there is another awesome brand of aftermarket oil cooler for sale in Aus. I have seen a tinier one on FB but with no links.

Another question please. Do all the oil coolers, standard and aftermarket fit every year of bike. I got a 2001 model. Both of them are wrecking on ebay. One is from a 2005 model (Hel rad) and the original is from a 2006 model bike.

never had to that job yet. Totally no expert. Reckon all model coolers would be same, not sure really. Im sure Pirtek or Enzed could make up hoses.

The standard (OEM) oil cooler is the same across all models, so a 2008 cooler will fit a 2001. No worries there.

Regards the HEL cooler, correct the standard lines don't fit, you'd probably have to get some new lines from HEL in the UK, however, do be aware that HEL themselves don't make the cooler, it's actually made by a company called Setrab, so if you have local Setrab stockist they may be able to assist both on the cooler and perhaps on the lines.

Alternately give HEL a call, as if you can get a cooler locally, they might well be able to advise you on lines locally as well - or ship some from the UK https://www.helperformance.com/

As an aside, I see the above was your first post - would be appreciated if you could perhaps introduce yourself in the Introductions section - thanks  :onya:  http://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?board=20.0

Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

numbskull

Not sure about shipping worldwide as I couldn't find it on their website, but here's another cooler: http://www.coolexperts.co.uk/product/suzuki-gsx-1400-oil-cooler-new-modified-flanges/

May help someone looking for a replacement cooler and it sounds as though it drops straight in with original lines. Don't know how the price compares to the HEL one?

gsxbarmy

Trouble with the Coolex one is that the flange across the top negates the fan, as it blocks the airflow. Not a worry if you are not concerned about the fan, however I'm guessing that with the temperatures that can be reached down under, it may be important. But personal choice for sure.

See this topic for alternate coolers:

Oh sweet! Found a Setrab supplier 10 minutes away in Seven hills. What a fucking relief! This is doing my head in.

http://www.mscn.com.au/ and https://www.gameonmotorsports.com.au/

They told me to get some measurements and get back to them. Is there a model number for this oil cooler i can quote to them and measurements for the hoses. I never done this before and only know the basics of working on my bike. I may buy both brand new depending on the price or buy the second hand rad off ebay.

Thanks guys......

gsxbarmy has provided you with a lot of info. You just need to read attentively, including the links. For example

gives you the Setrab Part number in the first pic in the first post.

Besides the hoses and fittings you also need mounting braces.

HEL has gone through the work, provides a kit, and makes a few $$ for this service

For a headache free installation buy one of the direct replacements (aaron, coolexperts) with stronger flanges (coolexperts products have the sturdiest flanges as the are welded) than the OEM. The Aaron would be best to ensure the fan can do its work. Coolexperts mounting bracket can be modified to eliminate that obstruction. Same obstruction issue with HEL by the way  :whistling: Coolexperts also have a larger capacity (race) cooler for the 14. Should keep her cool in Australian summers.

I wouldn't buy an original (especially not a used one) unless you like the risk of it leaking again at the same spot. The used OEM is tempting to the impatient (quickest solution) and certainly the cheapest :whistling:

Then there is the option of having one made by a local radiator builder.  For this option make sure they don't use the same crappy method as the OEM did.

Bigger Birdie

I've got a Coolexperts cooler on Bertha, straight replacement for the OE. Living in the UK means the fans are mostly for decoration, but I'm not sure the obstruction caused by the bigger bracket would be too much of an issue.

Yes thank you. I appreciate the help guys. but i got a lot on and its been a stressing past few months.

So with changing the oil on your 1400. The engine oil is the same as the oil cooler oil. It just cycles through and you dont have to do anything else right? Ive always had bikes with coolant rads and find this set up so much easier to do.

seth

@Kakaus same oil as the sump
It doesn't all come out at an oil change but just do normal oil changes and all will be fine .
If you do have to refill including the oilcooler then it takes about 5.2 litres instead if the normal 4.8 litres.
Good luck .
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too
