Hi Vlad
I have been experimenting with Video upload.
I put up a video in bike Chat which was 32MB Way too big so downloaded a converter tool and saved it as an MP4 - now under 2MB and the quality still ok. I noticed that only mpg file would be accepted so I changed the extension from MP4 to MPG and the video still worked.
The question....... what format should be used and how does one run the video from teh body of the topic?

Please excuse my ignorance - I'm told its something to do with age!!!

One doesnt.
Best way is to upload to youtube then put link in your post with youtube tags around it.

Can't see it either on my iPad or on my PC. Sorry. Whatever you have done does not seem to work.

OK, managed to download onto my PC - then I can see it when played from my PC. But won't work on my iPad.

Yep.
Essentially it is attached as a "file" which requires download to view.
There is no built in player for these type of files.

While it would be technically possible to do this, it would mean that our space allocation for the site would fill up very quickly, requiring additional $ to be thrown at it.

The better solution, which we have also adopted as have many other forums, is to encourage users to upload their videos to youtube and link them from there. That way you are using FREE youtube storage space rather than space that has to be paid for.

It also means you can embed the videos into a post with youtube tags, which is cool.

Dont forget Vimeo is also an option if your not a fan of youtube..

I use both. Youtube has VERY strict copyright rules so if you add music to your videos then youtube may not show it. However Vimeo has very little copyright rules and doesnt give a toss.. lol

FYI, we just upgraded to 200/50.  Apparently they can do it in NZ cause we're a small population, much harder to roll out something like that with a huge population.  More infrastructure required.

Actually the problem is amortising investment expenses - relatively small population (compared with say the UK) and a shitload bigger land mass / area to be covered.

I gather that even when we do get NBN as it will be fibre to node (rather than fibre to premises) the best case scenario will be about 40bps download, and possibly much less.....

Did I mention this shits me !  Oh, I did?  Good.

Can't u use a computer at work for large uploads? 

When I still had a dial up modem, this worked for me
