Anyone got a pic of where they crack, I'm not sure if mine is scratched or cracked

Bob

This is it

Hi Bob,
I would say that both marks are from a scratch or small amount of corrosion in the grain either way the fact that they are running horizontal to the swing arm they should not catastrophically fail as would a crack in the vertical plane.

Cheers,
Rick

Are there any symptoms @RickC ? I.E. what brought it to your attention ?  :confused1:

His cracked around the bearing rather than where the marks are on your swingarm @Bob .

Hi Chris,
I don't have a cracked swingarm, Just going off Bob's picture - I thought he was talking about the red circled area which would give plenty of warning before it failed with deformation being evident long before a break, the yellow circled area could also be a crack but I suspect that it is just where the coating has not taken over a dirty weld.
Cheers,
Rick

Bob

Hey Rick, it was the top red circle area I was talking about, the yellow circle is just mank, crud, dirt from it sitting about uncleaned

RickC

Hi Bob,
That looks like a mark in the grain of the aluminium, It's not where I would expect to see a crack and if it was would get a lot worse before giving concern.

A crack in the vertical plane runs the risk of a swingarm snapping, a crack in the horizontal plane still has the strength of the aluminium above and below it and would normally deform before total failure.

Cheers,
Rick
