Took car for service and MOT = £499
its a 2013 VW Tiguan diesel DSG 4x4 75K miles
£380 for filters and long life oil
£70 for Haldex oil change
£50 for MOT - advisories rear n/s shock misting ( £175 )
rear o/s tyre wearing on side edge - 85% worn
Mrs Notty says cheaper than changing the car - of course if the bike cost that much it would have to go !  :bugga:

Agreed, sounds like a rip off to me too.  What the hell is long life oil?  £380 for filters?

VAG group cars have 2 types of service intervals, fixed and variable - fixed is for those cars that do less than 10k miles per annum. However, over the past couple of years they have changed the servicing to using oil which will last 2 years and are changing those cars on fixed interval services to variable. Whilst this may sound iffy, actually it saves money, as rather than have your car serviced every year and the oil/filter changed, you now only need it when the car decides at the variable interval, usually around the 2 year/18k miles mark.

Filters from VAG on the other hand are just silly money, no wonder Germany has a healthy economy  :happy1:
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

My Hilux has fixed prices services, first 6 service / 3 years are $180 each.

After that I'm happy to do my own.

I did ask my Suzuki dealer to quote on a FULL service on my B-King that hasn't seen a dealers in years.
He said it would be close to $1000 if I didn't need a battery / tyres / chain or sprockets.

Servicing costs......not much  :onya:

Different for the 14 and our ute.  :smitten:
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

I assume that this was a main dealer service @Notty ?

Find a local independent garage and get it done there..It'll save you a fortune mate. You'll get the service book stamped as well, so it will have a full service record.
I use Cwmbran Tuning down by Lidl in Cwmbran. Adrian has been servicing and MOT'ing my car for the last 7 years..And MOT's my bikes. He's 100% spot on every time :onya:

@froudy @Notty Just be aware that if you want to maintain a full traceable/trackable service history you cannot use an independent UNLESS they are approved by and have access to the VAG database - there is no service book for VAG cars, it's purely electronic. So you can't get a logbook stamped as there isn't one. They will also need access to the VAG software for any updates etc to the ECU.

There are some good independents around who do have access to the necessary applications, you just need to find them.

Having said that VAG group will price match, so if you find you can get it done cheaper at an indie, speak to your dealer, so long as they can verify the price, they will match it. That's what I do.

That must be a UK thing.

I put traditional paper service books in every VW car and van and Skoda's and Audi I send out here in Australia.
Hundreds every week.

Notty, shouldve come to my garage. I just did up a quote, for interest. Using best oil, MOT(Safety Certificate here). Oil, Air and Cabin filters. $421/255 pounds. Service is everything that can be checked, battery test included and wipe over inside cabin, UV protecter. Includes OBD scan. If cabin and air filter not needed , drop off $80/45 pounds.

Mister Fishfinger

Honestly with a 6 year old car showing 75K miles I don't think there is huge benefit in keeping a main dealer service history. Just take it to an independent and keep the paper receipt, you'll still have something to show if you sell the car. I doubt the buyer is going to knock much off the price for that.

The car had the emissions update which provides a 2 years VAG warranty on most parts in the engine PROVIDED it has a up to date VAG service record. the DSG gearbox alone is £4500 to replace ( already been there done that on my last VW ) :)
