Aye I believe it's stored in the clock's ECU, as the mileage follows the clocks if you swap them between bikes.

I could come over and have a look if you like Dan. I have replaced the leds in the display with blue ones so have the necessay skills if a repair is required? Sounds like there could be some internal damage from the description of your other symptoms.

He has a k2 but the parts he should need are the same if they transfer the LCD screen between units .

They are as the clocks I swapped over had the later clock covers (with immobilizer)  which I needed to swap to fit to mine but everything works on my K2
