Who's ridden a sports bike?

I've owned my GSX 14 for just over 2 years now and I've ridden other bikes but all been lower CC and not sports bikes. Most powerful I've ridden other than GSX is an Aprilia Shiver 750. While I love the GSX the only bad this is how it makes every other bike feel gutless in comparison. Even bikes like the MT-07 feel crap in comparison though MT-07 is one of the better ones I've ridden.

Just wondering what a sports bike is like in comparison having less torque but more HP like an R1? Especially to those who own a more powerful sports bike, is having that much more HP more fun than the GSX?

seth

You'll find that all these mega sports bikes have all that extra bhp in the higher part of the rev range and where you really ride the bike will still feel lacking compared to the gsx in the lower and mid range of there revs.
I'd say go to a deal and get some test rides to find out for yourself.

only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Try a three cylinder triumph, something like the speed triple 1050 grunt plus top end power in one,,,I think anyway👍

Those triples have got quite a fair bit of torque tbf. I don't think I could ever get rid of the GSX despite it not being overly fast top end lol. If I had the money or more so space (got 3 bikes in garden atm) I'd buy another GSX and modify it probably increase the CC, full exhaust system, cams, power commander etc etc not that the frame will be great for cornering a higher speeds lol.

Tbf one time I was behind a Hayabusa down a dual carriageway and due to traffic he could never get up to a speed quick enough to be able to leave the gsx. He kept having to do a double take in his mirrors wondering how a naked bike was keeping up even though he would have left me standing if it was open road lol

Try a Bking for size.
Yep - the B-King leaves the GSX1400 for dead   but is nowhere near as comfortable or cruisy :onya:

Is B-King faster than Busa??

V-Twin sports bikes have lower CC's but the same if not more grunt than the 14. Some years back I owned a Honda VTR1000 Firestorm as well as the 14, and it had as much if not more torque than the 14 and delivered the power in a very similar manner.

My current Triumph Explorer 1200 also has similar engine characteristics to the 14, delivering good useable low down power from its triple engine.

So there are similar bikes - sports and adventure out there with similar characteristics to the 14.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

The TL1000s is a very grunty bike and a lot quiker than the GSX but no were near as comfy or as smooth to ride .
i intend to live for ever or die trying !!

Gsx 1400 k6 , Thunderace 1000 , Guzzi stelvio 1200 ntx

I own a Busa, a B-King, an H2 SX. All more powerful and faster than the GSX.

I like the GSX (in the same way I like my Bandit) its a good honest useable bike that doesn't cost the earth, heaps of feed back, not bad to work on, not expensive to buy or run.

Would I own a 14 as an only bike? No. Sorry, they are great for touring, pillion, luggage, comfort, tank range etc, but they just don't punch on hard enough top end.
Great bikes, happy to own one but not a sportsbike.  I'm the same way a full on sportsbike to me aren't comfy or practical, a bit too focused.

My old faired Busa and B-King Run almost identical times at the strip, 10.333 and 10.339. The King is a fraction heavier and a little less powerful but so easy to launch. Up to 100mph, maybe a bit more, there nothing in it, at heigher speeds the Busa predictably walks away if you willing to risk your licence.

Busa is a LOT easier to live with than the King, spares, tank size, luggage etc. King has a nice upright position though.

Quite a lot of bikes can leave the GSX tbf. I've also very rarely come across a bike that can leave me completely mainly due to traffic obviously at night time when roads are empty they have room to leave me but not during the day. Was behind a bike yesterday which I think was a VTR 1000 though seemed to be older styling than ones I can find online. Not sure what gear he was in and I was in top but he had a bit of an edge on acceleration so knocked GSX down a gear or two. Seemed though it wasn't long before GSX started to out accelerate it top end wise though was no where near GSX's top speed. Guess though twins lose a bit of steam in the top end.

Anyone ridden something like an R6? More HP, lighter and faired probably leave the GSX but far less torque and revvy. Does that feel gutless in comparison to the GSX?

Mike, have a ride on MT10, your question will be answered.

I had a GSXR 600 K6, 'upgraded' to a big bang R1.. I think I regretted that decision to be honest.

I found it to be a pain in the arse in traffic or town riding and I personally believe there is such a thing as 'too much' power on the road (controversial opinion maybe!), you will notice a difference between an R1 and the GSX.

I enjoyed the R1 on the track, but on the road, my GSXR 600 was much more usable and that will definitely apply to the GSX too.
Some call it reckless behaviour - I prefer to think of it as youthful exuberance & character building.

Tony Nitrous

It's not about too much power, it's about how more power is produced.

An R1, Blade, ZX10R etc make more power but aren't as nice to use as a Busa or B-King except when you are working hard and they are on the boil.

200hp with a heap of grunt can be more useable and friendly than 160 or 180hp from a high reving sportsbike motor.
