Having previously put a post up about Givi pannier racks being as rare as rocking horse shit and therefore the second hand prices are at stupid prices I thought I would give you and update.
I purchased the Givi top box rack 527FZ. I put it on mt 2006FE and then after having read on the net that someone said the pannier racks from a Honda VFR800 fits. Well as I have a VFR800 and the pannier racks to go with them, I took them off the Honda and was shocked to find that with only a few slight adjustments they fit perfectly. The hole on the arm that attaches to the pillion foot rest needed to be filed out by approx 5mm. The other little problem is easily solved. The rear standard size indicators are about 3cm to long. However as I had some smaller LED indicators to put on. When this was done the panniers fitted perfectly. It would be easy if you wanted to to attach some indicators to the bottom of the top box. The bar that  joins the side racks together that goes under the rear light needs no adjustments.
My VFR800 is the pre V-TEC version and I know that the Givi fittings for the later version are different so only buy the pannier racks that fit the VFR800FI pre 2001.
I will post some picture of this in the next week or so but I'm sure someone will find this helpful. I know I was happy not to have to spend over £200.

Awesome - so there's an option finally.

Unfortunately still the cost of panniers and a rack but at least it's possible !  Cheers !

The good thing is that givi and kappa boxes and maybe others will fit and can be gotten 2nd hand from off any bike it's the rack that's the problem and looks like there is a solution for that now

only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Sorry its taken a while but I now have bike back from mates and finally got around to fitting the VFR 800 Givi racks to it. And took Pictures to show.
As with my previous post this cannot be done with the original indicators as they are to long. I have fitted small LED ones and have done  and have fitted a modified undertray. However I did measure it up with the original before hand and it still fits with no problems. In fact It might be easier as the number plate would be lower.
The VFR800 racks come from the FI model which is pre VTEC. Up to year 2001 I think.
They bolt on to to the standard GSX1400 topbox rack.
At the rear foot pegs you need to take out the pin that goes through with the lower clip and replace it with longer bolts as the pin is to short. For the photos I have not cut the bolts to size as I will do this at a later date. I would also put a nut between the foot rest and the arm of the pannier rack. I would also put two nuts under the arm to secure it. ( I hope that makes sense)
The only problem I have is that the bar that goes across the back blocks out the number plate a little so I will just make a small bracket to lower the number plate. This will stop P.C. Plod getting fussy. On the original undertray the number plate is lower so it does not have this problem.
I hope this helps? I got the VFR pannier racks of ebay for under £30. Very cheap considering Ive seen GSX1400 ones go for over £200.

We'll ive had a play fitting  a set of tiger explorer pannier frames onto the 1400. And so far so good. Need to do the right hand side as yet but the left is on. And sturdy.

VladTepes

OK watching this thread and considering doing something similar for mine. Perhaps maybe.

Worst that can happen is it all goes tits up.
My left has gone on ok. With the help of a hacksaw and drill  Think the right will need a bigger hammer.

Stepdoug

So the vfr frames are the pl257
If I'm right. About £90 ish new

Great, looks like I'll be purchasing the vfr 800 ones so, they seem to fit with little modification.... Thank christ

How did the Triumph Explorer ones go in the end? :whatever:

VladTepes

My concern is around whether I can fit panniers given the Akro can, which is higher than the stock exhaust.
