hi all . i just came back from a 3000 mile run through france and italy on the 1400 k3 . mostly the bike ran great . but as it got hotter say after 4 plus hrs of riding it would get rough on pick up until one was over 2500 rpm almost like there was a fueling issue but it always ran through it , despite that it never cut out and ran fine above that.  at times it would idle rough at start up, but if one allowed it to idle and warm up it ran fine until  say 300 plus miles . i ran 98 octane all the way there and back .i have dons ?e the filter by pass mod before i left  . i am investigating to see if its drawing air anywhere in the induction system at low rpm ,tho if that,s the case it would also be lean at upper rpm . anyone had this issue ?? is there an easy way to test the injectors i also ran injectors flush through three tanks of 98.

I picked up some crap in my tank when I was in Italy a few years ago.
The symptoms were exactly what you are getting.
Have a look at your teabag filter on the fuel pump if it's dirty then you might have dirt in the injector filters mine was in 1 of the injectors.
Good luck

thanks . wont be tea bag as that issue was happening 4 hrs after leaving home and i put new fuel tank when i did filter mod.  but i will look to see any filter in injector .. there  is one in the top  of injector .right?

The injectors have thier own built in filter.

grand cheers i will check that. i have seen the fuel pressure piped to the nozzle side and the injector electrically opened  in order to reverse flush it. anyone tried that with a good result .

reading ref clutch switch, is this a possible culprit

A dodgy clutch switch can cause all sorts of running problems..Especially if you bridge it out of the circuit..The 1400 doesn't like it at all.
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!

A while back I started to read on here about clutch switch issues.
So I bought a new clutch switch from Fowlers and pre fitted it before I got issues with the old one..
I thought, the bike is 14 years old now and clutch switches aren't expensive so it makes sense to change it before problems happen.
Super easy to change.. It took 2 minutes !

will be investigating this point...

i have blocked off the pairs. i found that the hole in the fitting takes a 10x1.5 tap.so i tapped out both, turned down the 17 spanner head on 2 10x1.5 bolts  to 14.75 . then i applied some sealer ,just a drop to the threads and wound them in as tight as poss by hand, then i ran some sealer around the joint ,bolt to fitting . its not exactly a true flat fitting. then i re assembled: the lot. waitin on plugs to test it to see if low end running better .

cant see filters in injector tops ??

I did it the same way but I used headless screw and some teflon tape.

GEORGE

replace spark plugs.
chek TPS
Check air filter
set your idle at 1100rpm
Do you run rich? you smell fuel when your bike idling?

When I brought the K3 over from the UK - it ran rough. Last week I did a 3K run around Washington and Oregon and only used Ethanol free gas 94 Octane - It fixed the problem - she is running nice and smooth now.
I need to go somewhere I've not been but won't know until I get there!

The main thing i'd say has something changed or been changed if it's suddenly started running rough there has got to be a reason.
List of things to ask yourself
1/  has the bike been sitting for a while .
2/ have you changed anything on the bike that could affect it's running (including service parts)
3/ have you used a different fuel station or even just refueled and was it ok before.
4/ has it slowly got worse or a suddenly change in it's running.
5/ has the fuel pump filters ever been cleaned.
6/ has anything else about the feel of the bike changed(chain and sprocket wear can also affect how they run)

From what you answer to these questions should give you and idea on where to look and what to check .

Good luck hope it's back running sweet asap.

100% Seth - mine was a case of sitting even though my BIL started once a month it was not ridden for a long time and when he did ride it, it wasn't given a 9 grand tune-up!
