Sorry @Proteous
I did start this thread back in Feb loads of dates were discussed we tried to get August/September dates but again didn't work out so 1st weekend in October was agreed .
Unfortunately thing always clash for someone thus is just the best I could do for as many as I could.
If we do it again I'd want it to be a bit earlier .

Thanks Mr Hooli....
Any routes that minimizes motorways are good...
If we take time (ish) then its not a problem.

I went to Anglesey and back in a day from home quite comfortably and that was 385 miles in total.

That's a good distance Speedy.  Ya must be 'bike fit' now.  :onya:
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Hooli

How about this? It uses the A1 till Scotch Corner still but then avoids main roads as much as possible. I hope you like corners

It's 289miles & just under 6 hours according to Tyre. Google is showing 7 hours, but that'll include delays from weather today. Let me know if you want it for TomTom or Garmin, I'll add more waypoints to stop the twat-nav cheating & then upload it.

ARH

Hooli... don't want to distract from this thread but when you mentioned differences between tyre and google maps... I also get differences in times when loading an itn file to the tom tom... can be as much as 15% diffference.. you experience that as well?

Hooli

I've got a Garmin but yes.

As I understand it, you only load the waypoints not the route itself. So google calculates a route between the points using it's algorithms/traveling speed etc and those will differ from the ones your sat-nav uses.

It is a long 7 hours but some great roads but not fast roads .
If your running short of time I'd pop across the kincardine bridge and up the A977 to the M90 and on up to Perth then back on the A9 to dunkeld .

That looks a great run up north hopefully you guys can sort out meeting on route .
Depending on things I'll head down towards sterling and meet up with you guys too.

I figured they were talking of Weatherby services for 9am, so that's 4pm without stops. Maybe 6pm after lunch & petrol stops.

seth

You come up enough to know if things are getting tight for time you can take faster roads so I'm sure you'll have no problems .
Only thing is add is fuel stops take a bit of time too if there is a group of you .

I'm not even sure I'll be with them yet, but that didn't take long to do.

But as you say, it's easy enough to skip a few waypoints so the twat-nav picks faster roads if needed.

Stolichnaya

It could be getting a tad complicated!!!

I'll be leaving Garforth about 10am. Probably just sit on A1 up to the bash as I want a shitShowerShave n hit the bar!!

Heck... I might even get dressed before the bar bit but let's see ...
I have 4 bikes and 1 wife - why can't all 5 shut up when I take a key out

You have made up a brilliant route..
The nearest place for me to meet you (without me heading back down South) would be Alston..
Pick a spot in Alston (Its not a big place) and give me an approximate time and I shall be there "afore ye"..
In one way I am NOT in touch with my feminine side cos I am punctual !! :stir:

Slightly outside Alston is the remains of a burned down well known bikers cafe..
The owners have set up a mobile cafe till the original is rebuilt..
Large car park and a brew / food ??

Expand the map lower down the page on the link..
What do you think?
Its a small detour in the scheme of things..

Hooli

Aye that could work, as you say it's not far off route.

Explains why I'd heard Hartside had shut, I didn't know it'd burnt down.

Nearer the time let me know an eta...

Re Nav I use the waze app, it constantly updates if you want the quickest route or you select 'bike' for the more enjoyable route, you also get pot hole warnings  :notworthy:

I'm now staying over in Donny Thursday so will have a shorter first day.

I'll text Speeds/Stoli the day before to confirm details  :onya:
