C11 code

Hi guys,
K5, 63000km on the clock.
I get FI red light ONLY when the engine is too hot, (first time i heard the cooling fan blows FI light comes on)
the lcd screen shows me C11 code, Camshaft Position Sensor.
Any ideas.

Take the sensor out & give it a wipe? might be dirty & the heat affects it's reading. Or could be a dodgy connection & the fan kicking in drops the voltage far enough to trigger a fault.

Have you got the factory manual to work through the fault finding for that sensor?

A malfunctioning cam sensor can cause the engine to heat up more.
C11 only shows if there is no voltage for 4 seconds or more. Doesn't tell you anything more than that about malfunction.

Check the wiring for open or shortened ground. Check for bad connectors (including ECU connector), clean with contact spray.
Take the sensor out to see if any metal/foreign particles are attached, clean with carb cleaner.

I took of the cam position sensor and clean it up with brake cleaner.
It was not dirty at all, i checed everything.
I used contact spray  and i putted everything in place.
I start the bike and i go for a short drive.. I leave the bike on the side stand to idle.
FI red light comes on the same time the fan start to blow...C11 on the clock.

Why is the fan coming on all the time?  Under normal conditions, the fan hardly ever comes on.  Have ya got the wrong oil in it? or not enough?

It's very strange hopefully you find out what's causing your fault .

When you get the error, turn the engine off, remove the connector to the cooling fan switch and start the engine again. Do you now get the C11 ?

He's in Greece, it tends to be quite warm there.

Well, how warm is warm then?  Warmer than Aussie?  They've been known to have a reasonably warm climate.

Just looked it up,

August is the hottest month in Athens with an average temperature of 84°F (29°C) and the coldest is January at 50°F (10°C) with the most daily sunshine hours at 12 in July. The wettest month is December with an average of 97.6mm of rain.

Good news!
I disconnect the battery, took of the fan motor, i remove the connector of the cooling fan,
it was pretty dirty,
i spray contact cleaner.. clean up everthing and put it in place.
Start the engine and i wait the fan to blow...and wait... and  wait....
the fan starts to blow and no FI light.
I went for a ride to drop the temperature, then i leave the bike to idle.. fan blows again and no FI light no code!
Problem solved!

Over a period of 10 years I heard the fan first time because I stuck to the city drive with an outside temperature of 34C degrees over an hour.
I use motul 5100 10w40 semisynthetic.
I do not know if the problem was the fan connector or helped that i disconnect the battery (reset) 
I recently changed battery replaced the YUASSA YTX 14-BS with a new one.
Nevertheless problem gone!

well sorted GEORGE. great work. dirty contacts. high resistance. strange ive never had my fan come on, must check it actually works. we do get warm here, about to start.
