This is what I object to, brits have less rights in Britain than foreigners.

If you're an English working male in the UK you may be able to claim your part of a minority group soon. You're certainly an endangered species..... :happy1:

Tell me bout it tony, I have worked all my life in this country serving in the RAF and then as a civil servant training military personnel and I have less wrights than a one legged lesbian transgender mother from anywhere outside Britain.  :furious:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6050159/Motorbike-instructor-accused-Shell-garage-racism-told-remove-helmet.htm

I read the article and there was nothing to suggest the lady was a foreigner. The garage also said the garment was a hijab, not a burka, so her face would have been visible. And the biker had been using the place for 3 years without having to remove his lid, so it doesn't seem like an official policy, more like the actions of a single employee.

It's almost as if the Daily Mail is deliberately trying to stir something up to sell papers. Who'd have thought it?

OMG !! are you saying that THE Daily Mail would make up such a story????? shocking thoughts  :rofl2:

I don't recall ever being required to wear Lederhosen in Germany. I haven't been to Saudi, but if I did I wouldn't expect to wear the dishdasha either.

I have lived there.

You are a man so you don't have much to worry about. .

That garment, in Saudi, is generally referred to as a thobe. No western men don't have to wear it but they are expected to wear trousers (not shorts) etc. They can wear a thobe if they want to, of course.

Western women don't have to wear the  niqab (BoJo's "letterbox"), but they are expected to wear an abaya or at the very least a dress which covers everything including the ankles, and have their hair covered.  Failure to do so may see them whipped, their legs spray painted or off to the watch house. This is done by the matawa (religious police).  Yep it's that kind of place - they aren't big on tolerance.

Interesting insights, thanks. It was good to see in the news that women are finally being allowed to drive. The new guy in charge seems a lot more progressive than his predecessors, although things aren't going to change rapidly.

But yeah, the world could use a bit more tolerance.
