Mister Fishfinger

I don't mind removing my lid in petrol stations. It is a bit of extra hassle (especially because I sometimes wear glasses, so getting a lid on and off is a 2-step process), but I understand how scary it is to work in an environment where you could be robbed with violence. So if it makes people feel safer, fair enough I will go along with it.

By the way, the pay-at-pump option is convenient when it's available but I should mention what a biking friend of mine told me about the other day. Apparently a lot of the major fuel companies have released fuel payment apps that you can install on a smartphone. You just drive in, fire up the app (which stores your registration number I guess), then you can fill up and leave without going near the shop.

I haven't tried one of these apps yet myself but it does seem like a good idea. Here's a link to the Shell version: https://www.shell.co.uk/motorist/shell-fuels/fill-up-and-go.html

This is probably going to be very controversial  :whistling: but i want to know why a woman pulling up for fuel is aloud to wear a berka (hood with a slot for eyes ) and i have to take my helmet off ?
Im going to claim that my crash helmet is part of my religion and it is an afront to my god ... Nitro ... to take it off  :stir:
i intend to live for ever or die trying !!

A friend of mine was made to remove his flip front helmet at a garage in a heavy rain storm he was already soaked so the last thing he wanted was to remove his gloves helmet before they would turn the pump on when questioned they said it's the company rules .
He made the same point about religious head coverings and was told that's different when he asked why they said they would call the police for him being aggressive.
He only wanted fuel and to be on his way .He left and managed to make the next fuel station where he was aloud to fill up with his helmet on but the front flipped up.

The burqa isn't really a religious garment, it's more of a regional and/or cultural thing.

A crash helmet is an item of safety wear that would be useful for obscuring your face and protecting your head, for example if you were planning to rob a petrol station. Quite a difference really.

If you think there's something weird about a culture that covers up women's body parts without requiring men to do the same, ask your missus to go to the shops topless and see what sort of reaction you get.

Andre

If that thing (and related wear covering the face) is a regional/cultural thing than there shouldn't be a problem not to wear it where it is a regional/cultural thing to take issue with it. BTW, where I live there are many Moslems. Have only seen a woman once with face covered. She walked past my house. A few days later she walked passed again without that masquerade. She had adjusted quickly to that part of the new culture she lives in now.

"No shirt, no shoes, NO service" was a sign I saw on almost any store in the USA. I have yet to see any men (or woman  :happy1: ) in any of the German stores I shop without wearing a top (or shoes). That is what US and German culture expect and it is followed.

Where it is expected to take my helmet off I do, easy thing to do.

There's an old saying that applies here, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

If you don't want to be like a 'Roman', don't go there.

Certain religions have their 'specific ways' & that's up to them, but if we (Christian based) folk, who drink beer & wine when they feel like it, eat pork etc when they feel like it, went to their country & started doing what we've always done, we'd probably just be shot, or at least jailed & flogged.  We'd be outraged, but that's their rules & we chose to go there.

I don't recall ever being required to wear Lederhosen in Germany. I haven't been to Saudi, but if I did I wouldn't expect to wear the dishdasha either.

There are middle eastern countries that have Christian and Jewish populations living alongside Muslims, there's no requirement for the non-Muslim women there to wear coverings.

I have never felt threatened by someone wearing a burqa and I really don't care what people wear, it's up to them. As for "Christian based", I'm not one myself but as far as I know Jesus didn't mention any kind of clothing rules.

Hear hear Mr Fishfinger... the prophet Mohammed doesn't talk about clothing rules either (as far as I am aware.. )

Just to clear up any misconceptions about 'Christian Based folk' in the post earlier, it was just a term to identify persons not coming from Muslim countries.  Merely pointing out the different rules people have to abide by in different countries.   Visitors to those countries DO have to abide by that countries laws & standards.  No drinking, no pork etc & women must dress 'modestly' or else.

Personally, I'm an Atheist, for me, there is no supreme being / entity, but that's just me. I certianly was not trying to include myself as belonging or adhering to any of the 'main stream' religous organisations popurlarly found in our collective countries.
