Left hand throttle

With no improvement in my right shoulder I'm looking at fitting a left hand throttle to the 14. I'll also swap the brake & clutch lines over so the clutch lever is on the right hand side. Question is ... are the master cylinders the same size as in piston & volume?

The left hand throttle is second nature after 30 years riding Indians but the levers might take some getting used to.

Talk to the NADB, they will probably have more information on this subject that might help.

beat me to it
nabd are great for this kind of mods
they have contacts on companies that provide this kit and also might be able to fund or part fund the conversion.

good luck

They are a great organisation, a couple of mates have had to use them, just hope I never need their expertise.

Thanks a lot guys but I'm in Oz, although I'd say there's something similar here too. Funny thing is that with the type of engineering I've done over the last 55 years such an organisation would come to someone like me to do this sort of modification.

I'll test the flow rate of both master cylinders & if they're the same then it should only be a matter of swapping hydraulic lines. The twist grip might be OK if the cables are reversed but if not it's no drama to make something up.

The shoulder issue causing you problems with the throttle won't be equally affected using a RH clutch?

Because it controls the throttle my arm is in one position constantly making the shoulder ache. Any more than a minute in that position & I'm in pain. With the left hand throttle I could rest the right arm on my lap & be ready for clutch use only.

I'm not happy riding with a gut full of Endone so it's either the twist grip mod or limit myself to 10 minute rides.

So a cruise control is no use then? I suppose that doesn't solve the problem of low speed riding with constant changes of throttle position though eh.

One good thing about a left hand throttle - not likely anyone will steal the bike for joy rides !

Sorted with one of my 3am brain waves. I've got the design in my head but a flexible shaft through the handlebars attached to a bar end weight. The LH bar end weight would act as a secondary throttle.

Well that idea didn't work on the Pro Tapers so a straight bar was the solution. I needed to make another set of risers but I now have left & right hand throttles. The straight bars aren't as comfortable as the others but I can now get relief when the shoulder gets sore. Hopefully this is only a temporary solution.

That's a bit flash.  I admire your work !

Does two throttles make it go twice as fast ? :)

Break-Away Cruise Control, have a look at those Snapey.

I've got one, easy to fit & a good piece of kit. I find it useful anyway.
