Can anything else go to plan?
After wrestling all weekend with my silencers I went for a spin to the lake District and back with a mate..
We stopped for a brew and there was a horrible smell of burning...
Then I saw smoke rising from the front of the engine..
Looks like my bloody radiator is leaking..
Its leaking from the lower left connector as you sit on the bike..
My bike has done 33,700 miles. Is this a bit early for this to pack in?

Suggestions please for where to get a decent replacement (NOT SUZUKI) that will fit straight on..
I really am NOT in the mood to start farting around with alternate hoses and fittings..
I dont need (or want) a race spec one.. Just one that doesn't leak !!

Can anything else go wrong !!

Not your weekend is it Simon. That's crap news about the radiator, perhaps check where it's actually leaking from as it may be just the connection / O ring at fault.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Good point Col..
I wonder if the O rings are available separately?..
Checked the 2 allen bolts weren't loose..
They were not...

It wasn't...

I bought a box of o rings for 20€, 3mm -22mm. Widely available (bought mine at an autojumble)
If you are going to run out of fuel, do it in your garage.

It's only a short walk to the kettle.

For sure they are - get mine in local bearing and seal/gasket store. Went there with one in my hand, and store staff find me what I need. Price was cheaper then Suzuki OEM, but quality should be better (hope so :) )

As I heard, lover left corner is a weak point of 114 oil cooler... Interesting - why?
Anyway, I have prepared for this, and recently get myself HEL cooler, what is waiting for it's time to be fitted.

Hope you solve your issues soon!

It's very rare for the o-rings to fail especially if they are not disturbed .
The lower journals are known to be suspect and fail sometimes .I've had 1 go on an oil cooler in the middle of Hanover,Germany.
£520 later and 2 days (German efficiency & Suzuki Europe's main stores being 50miles away near Hamburg airport)  I was back on the road to Denmark.
Mine failed due to me fitting aftermarket oil lines and i think the combination of heavier lines and tightening the oil-line fixing bolts weakened my oil cooler.
only a slightly modified gsx1400

Thanks everyone for your input as usual..

In the end I decided to go for the cooler in the link below with modified flanges..
Yes its a bit more expensive but for peace of mind its worth it..

Not a lot of help, but I will add to O-rings where the lower end of the hose joins the case should be easily available. I change mine regular as I remove the right hand hose fitting to get the filter out from behind the Yoshi Cyclone.

I normally pick up a few when I'm buying filters at my regular bike shop.

Just be aware Simon that (if ever needed) that with that oil cooler, the fan will not have an air intake (which as standard is over the top of the cooler) as they have put that flange across the top. Whilst many say the fan never cuts in, mine did occasionally in very slow moving traffic on 30C+ days one year.

Crap weekend here as well, storm & rain the whole time. Then I noticed the neighbour had a new Greenhouse, then I noticed we no longer did!
I figured the last Greenhouse was made of straw, this time I'm building one out of Sticks, I'm confident but I have this nagging doubt.
May the sun be warm & shining and your roads be smooth & winding.

grog

for that money for cooler, id want fan working. not for me.

One is assuming I have a fan fitted !!
Not worried about the fan to be honest..
More bothered by the crap standard design that allows oil to escape..
Rather have a hot engine with oil than a cooler one without !

Thanks anyway Dave
