So as you may or may not know on Thursday last week I hit a rock in the middle of the road which ended up with me having a bashed up rear wheel, before I checked with you guys I rather stupidly thought I would check my excess with my insurance company first.

When I called up I said I would like to know what my excess was ( i couldn't be bothered to go hunting through my paperwork) they asked why and then I said because I have had a bit of a ding I and I want to see if its economical for me to go through my insurance.
They said that's fine then started taking details of what happened, so I naturally went along with it. Anyway long story short if you log an accident and don't claim (what I did) then it is technically still logged as an accident and could affect your claim renewal price! Apparently by law your supposed to log your accident even if your not claiming!

So just be aware guys if you didn't already know!

Yeah, I had that with my car once. Guy drove into the back of me at some traffic lights, so I rang and informed them that a claim might be coming. It was just before renewal time, so the first thing they did was send me a revised renewal quote at a higher price.

I did point out that nobody had made a claim yet, never mind decided whose fault it was. But that's the way it is. Your insurance goes up even if you have an accident that isn't your fault.

I just went to a different insurer, problem solved.

Did you mention the incident to the new insurance company?
Apparently once its noted you need to let any new insurance company know that you had an incident for 5 years!

What shits, that means they are going to dick you if you do and dick you if you don't claim  :furious:

Yes I did. I'm generally a very law-abiding citizen.

You have to shop around every year anyway.

A lot of people complain that their insurance gradually creeps up each year when they renew with the same provider. The reason is that the insurance business in the UK is very competitive, so companies deliberately quote low premiums for new customers to lure them in. Once they have your business, they rely on the fact that a large percentage of people can't be bothered with the hassle of comparing quotes every year so they tend to just renew (as long as the price hasn't jumped up too far).

Yeah knew about this, some companies will tell you that demographics show that if you have a no fault accident your more likely to have other accidents.Just an excuse to bung up your premium, robbing scumbags. :furious:

Kiwifruit

You actually get hit twice the second year.
In most cases the premium goes up and the sum insured decreases.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

BeMoto are the exception here, they like to keep current customers so their renewal this year was the best price by a margin.

The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

Mister Fishfinger

In the last couple of years both my car and my daughter's car have been hit from behind, both times not our fault and in both cases the other driver has offered to pay for the damage themselves to avoid making a claim on their insurance.

Unfortunately in both cases it was such a painful experience that I gave up and went through the insurance anyway. I waited in while people didn't turn up, made endless phone calls, one bloke went on holiday and dropped off the radar, I had Romanians get me out of bed at 8am on a Saturday morning to do a deal... You get the picture.

So not any more for me. It might cost me a bit of money, but life's too short for dealing with these people.
