Interesting.. I dont have access to the server logs, but i think certain picture formats are not allowed for security reasons.
Allowed file types: gif, jpg, mpg, pdf, png,  <-------- as long as your pic is one of these it should be ok if it is a .bmp though it wont be allowed.
Also, it may just be the server as it seems to be a bit iffy tonight.
