They can spin this even more. Insurance companies can make a deal, say with google, to get a comprehensive profile of the person's internet activities in order to determine premiums and handle claims. You watch an illegal race video on youtube, have an accident the next day --> claim denied. :stir:

insurance is a market thesedays prices change from minute to minute.
its all a con but we have to have it by law so they make £millions from us all legally.

Newspapers like to write these articles as if nasty people are sitting in an office somewhere, deciding that drivers with a Hotmail account or a particular name are more of a risk.

Actually though this stuff is all done by computers nowadays. The algorithm has just correlated certain email domains or names with an increased rate of claims. You can argue about whether that's fair, but nevertheless it's still true.

Interestingly, pretty much every statistical analysis shows that women are safer drivers than men - but EU legislation doesn't allow insurers to discriminate on gender (even though in practice they still do).

A quote made by a professional person representing a group of claimants who had unsettled insurance claims long after the Christchurch earthquake and relating to insurance company Loss Adjusters.

"If my clients had over estimated their losses by the same percentage that the loss adjusters have under estimated the cost of repair, the insurance companies would sue them for fraud."

Sad but true.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

We haven't gotten to the point where computers do this all by themselves. (ok in some movies they do).
Algorithms are written by people sitting in an office somewhere.
People sitting in an office or conference room decide what the algorithm should be.

Insurance can be described in 3 words .... a necessary evil  But be honest and fair. When I wrote off my R1 The insurance company classed it as a cat c. I got full payment and also I got the bike back which I then sold for half of what I got from the insurance. I actually made money on it .... Though I would have much preferred to have the bike back :onya:
