ive added an extra fuel filter to the low pressure gravity feed side of the fuel pump .
hopefully this will dramaticly reduce any contamination reaching the (teabag) filter on the fuel pump pick up.especially if you run to tank level low regularly.

the filter is just from my local bike parts guy(any inline bike type fuel filter that fits the hose (6mm)would be suitable tho i would use a clear filter so it can be easily checked )
it only cost £1+ £1 for the hose clamps i will use came from halfords a general motor spares shop who also sell a suitable filter to.

(this is not the finished hose its just to show the hose as i will fit the filter nearer to the back of the tank rather than the fuel pump as in the picture and fit hose clamps to all ends)

only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Great idea Seth - i did look at the high pressure filter option but if you stop it getting to the pump in the first place happy days ! and with the new teabag you sent me it should cut the crap   :smile2:
The older I get the better I was

Very good idea Seth!
But do not put too tight filter to vacuum side of the pump, to prevent cavitation.
Older Mercedes diesels are using just good pre-filters.
I think I´ll copy your idea.

Thanks Seth..
Can you tell me what internal diameter the fuel hose is under the tank.. The one that the added filter fits in to..
Motorcycle filters on eBay are 6mm and 8mm

Thanks in advance.

seth

Hiya a 6mm one is what you need clear if possible as then its easier to check.
Remember to get hose clamps so the hose can't come off the filter.

@Villiam3rd
This is the thread for the external low pressure filter mod

Hi guys, I have the tank off for another job I'm doing on the GSX and would like to fit an extra filter as outlined above. Just a couple of stupid questions really, on the low pressure side, is the flow indicated as in the picture? and the other stupid question, why does the line come out of the tank and then into the pump, surely it could take a low pressure feed for the pump inside the tank?

Thanks

My guess would be that the fuel is being drawn from the lowest part of the tank?

Eisenfarn

Yes it looks that way, not much sense in the manual about it, just trying to make sure

Hooli

It's also drawing from the rear of the tank. So when you accelerate the fuel sloshes backwards, then squirts down that pipe into the swirl pot. Meaning that even on low fuel it should run properly until the tank is almost empty.

seth

The fuel pump takes it's fuel from the rear of the tank.
Goes through the teabag filter then into the pump and high pressure system
Excess fuel is returned to the tank.
The pump only ever takes it's fuel from the rear of the tank .
The extra filter is to help the teabag filter .
The extra filter goes into the line between the rear of the tank and the fuel pump that line is gravity fed only .
