GSF1200 Bandit definitely.

As far as new bikes are concerned there is NOTHING like the 1400. There was much discussion of this in Tony Nitrous' thread.

I had planned to buy a new Bandit 1200 when a friend loaned me his GSX1400 to test ride. Up until that point I thought the GSX1400 was a bit of overkill, sometimes you need to ride a Bike to truly understand what it is about because I bought the 1400 a week later.
So if unavailable and I was looking at the price range, the Bandit 1200 would get my pick.
May the sun be warm & shining and your roads be smooth & winding.

That's a hell of a creation Froudy, seen pics before, it always impresses.

to answer my own question, not sure what id get. bandits i like. xjr ridden a few, no 6th gear and very lean in efi models thru mid range but get going up top. a pc3 would fix it i reckon. new z1, 1200 bonnie, not sure i could live with 2 cyls again, they also need re fuelling from mates reports. a kawa import, the daeg 1200, has all the good stuff. rockets i love but just too heavy for me. european doesnt interest me. just glad i fought off the aliens.

I do worry about how many modern bikes seem to have jerky response at low throttle openings. I read a test of the Z900 retro the other day, that has it too. It seems to be a real problem for manufacturers to stay within the Euro4 emission and noise limits and still give you a smooth reaction to the throttle.

I'm quite the eco warrior, I'm all for recycling and cutting down fossil fuel consumption, reduced emissions and all that. But not while I'm trying to navigate a wet roundabout with a van up my jacksy.

Andre

What you found when testing the Z900 has been reported by others as well.

My 14 has been smooth at low throttle. Now it is even smoother and more lively in the lower gears after modifying the GP sensor (on the cheap).

As to the fuel consumption of the Z900, officially it gobbles 5.3 liters/100 km from its small tank. We all should by now know what bullpacky the vehicle manufactures have been throwing at us in regards to fuel consumption. On a longer trip (with an occasional full throttle) my 14 used 5.3 liters/100.

I would choose a BMW R1200r, less weight, more power, same torque and is smooth with plenty of low down drive, good handling and fantastic brakes.

Keep the rubber side down.          Mick
