Fuel pump

Question
I am doing a modified bike , The fuel pump is in a separate container sealed as I have a different  fuel tank fitted so do I need a breather pipe coming from the sealed container or will it be ok. as when the fuel pump is in the tank it as a breather throw the cap.cheers

I'd say as long as the fuel tank supplying the pump has a breather, you'll be fine. 

The breather is there so the pump doesn't create a vacuum in the tank whilst it's pumping the fuel out, so as long as fuel being pumped is open to atmospheric pressure, you should be good.   Lawrie, Snapey, Andre & Lord barmy would be the ones to give you a confirmed definitive answer though.

To get the ultimate confirmed definitive answer hook the pump up to the tank, fill the tank, connect the pump to the battery and let it pump the tank content into a container. If it drains the tank you are in the clear. That way you can also measure if the pump provides the right amount of flow.

Also check the fuel pressure.

But without a breather between the two how will the air around the pump get replaced by fuel when the tank is filled?

If the pump is sealed than the design doesn't call for any fuel getting there. Maybe mr tibbs can throw in some pics of his pump and tank.

Basically,my bike is Zephyr zr1100 frame tank,seat,side panels and tail unit, every thing else is gsx1400, the fuel pump is to big to fit into the tank so cut out the bit where the pump bolts into the gsx tank and had  that bit welded to to a tube,so now the fuel pump bolts into separate unit which is sealed once the pump is bolted in. and that is why I was asking about a breather. hope that makes sense.

So effectively you've got a small fuel tank with the pump in that's fed from the proper tank?

I'd add a breather back to the main tank unless your feed pipe enters the smaller tank at it's highest point & even then I'd prefer to have a breather as it'll only take an airlock in there to stop the bike working.

You have to treat the sealed container as a fuel tank.
As it is the original fuel pump, its pressure regulator dumps the fuel out into the tank (in your case into the canister). Besides the breather you need an intake as well so the canister is filled up as the pump takes up fuel not only through one of its attached hoses but also through its housing. See the striped arrows in the pic.

why not use a fuel pumo off another suzuki
they are smaller than the 14 one and give same output
blubber uses a different smaller fuel pump with no ill effects on his tuned 135bhp gsx1400

I do use a fuel pump of a Gsxr750 k1.
The pump is the same, just the mounting plate from pump to the tank is different. 
My engine isn't tuned.... yet.

What other pump is there and would it fit in a zephyr tank ? as that might be better.

other suzuki ones
gsx 600 750 and 1000 are all smaller but you'd need to measure them and see what is best other fuel injected suzuki ones might also be smaller too if they look the same they should be ok but much easier than external pumps and loads of plumbing your looking at just now.
other bike fuel pumps might also work but i picked suzuki as others have swopped between models with no problems and use the same wiring and fittings as your gsx1400.

If you need a same size, more effective fuel pump you can use Audi and VW 1.8T pump. Only electrical connectors must be changed.
That pump is enough to 250+ hp.
20A fuse and relay is needed too.
